We have already met The Avengers but thanks to Netflix us Marvel fans will finally get to meet The Defenders, a team of superheroes that include Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and private investigator/superhero Jennifer Jones. These heroes reflect the more darker side to the Marvel universe.
So whilst The Avengers work to save the world on a global scale The Defenders work together to keep citizens of an Hell’s Kitchen safe from harm. But what/where is Hell’s Kitchen? For those who don’t know it is a neighborhood of New York city just west of Times Square whose history has been plagued by violence.
It goes without saying that there is no stopping the Marvel cinematic universe, especially now since it crossed over to television with the popular series Marvel’s Agents of Shield. So now is perfect opportunity for Netflix to step on board by adding to the universe with an ambitious foray by creating four original 13-episode series which would each tell the origins of each hero before ending in a team-up series titled The Defenders.
The first Netflix Original Series in The Defenders series will be Marvel’s Daredevil and it will be produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios. The story will follow Matt Murdock as he fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen.
Ben Affleck famously played the same role in the 2003 film but knowing he’s already been bagged by DC to play Batman in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel, the internet has been speculating who would play the man without fear until today. Marvel.com announced that Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire and Stardust) has been cast in the title role.
Also producing the series will be Steven S. DeKnight (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) and Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods). So whilst we wait for further announcements here’s the trailer for the 2003 movie starring Ben Affleck.
