‘HUMANE’ Trailer Provides a Macabre Glimpse of Caitlin Cronenberg’s Deathly Dark Dystopian Satire

IFC Films and Shudder have revealed the release date, first trailer, and poster for Humane, a chilling dystopian satire directed by Caitlin Cronenberg in her highly anticipated feature film directorial debut.

Cronenberg cut her teeth in the director’s chair helming music videos and short films including The Endings (2018) based on her best-selling, celebrity-charged photo book of the same name, and The Death of David Cronenberg (2021).

Directed by Cronenberg, from a script written by one of the film’s producers, Michael Sparaga, and starring Jay Baruchel (Blackberry, Random Acts of Violence), Emily Hampshire (“Schitt’s Creek,” “The Rig”), Peter Gallagher (Palm Springs, “Grace and Frankie”), and Enrico Colantoni (“Station Eleven,” “Flashpoint”), the film takes place over a single day months after a global ecological collapse. To reduce the population, world leaders have instituted extreme measures including a euthanasia program. Against this backdrop, a retired newsman invites his adult children over for dinner to announce his plan to enlist in the nation’s new program. However, when the fathers plan goes terribly wrong, tensions erupt and chaos breaks out among ´his children.

Humane will open exclusively in theaters on Friday, April 26th and will stream on Shudder starting July 26th. In the meantime, we’ll leave you with the trailer that promises a film that simmers with paranoia and mistrust as the dire situation forces the family members to navigate the blurred lines between friend and foe.
