DC Studios is developing a new John Constantine movie, with filmmaker Francis Galluppi attached to write the screenplay, according to reports. The project remains in the early stages of development, with no director or cast members announced so far.
Best known for his feature debut, The Last Stop in Yuma County, Galluppi is also behind the upcoming Evil Dead Wrath, the seventh instalment in the long-running horror franchise. Said film marks his move into studio filmmaking and is based on an original story he developed before bringing it to franchise creator Sam Raimi and his team in 2024.
Constantine, also known as Hellblazer, first appeared in DC Comics’ The Saga of the Swamp Thing #37 in 1985. Created by writer Alan Moore and artists Steve Bissette and John Totleben, the character is a working-class British detective with a background in magic and the occult, often operating on the fringes of the supernatural world.
The character previously made the jump to the big screen in Francis Lawrence’s 2005 film Constantine, starring Keanu Reeves in a Los Angeles-set interpretation of the occult detective. Matt Ryan subsequently portrayed Constantine in the NBC television series of the same name, which ran for one season from 2014.
Warner Bros. is scheduled to release Evil Dead Wrath on April 7, 2028. Galluppi is represented by UTA and Anonymous Content.
