In Thane Economou‘s latest satirical drama, Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, Kal Penn plays Dr Sandeep Kapoor, a physician caught up in the scandal surrounding the death of his former patient, model and reality TV star Anna Nicole Smith (Abbie Cornish). With Trust Me, I’m a Doctor arriving in cinemas on 16 October, CinemaChords spoke to Economou about the challenges of portraying a real person swept up in a media storm, finding the balance between deadpan comedy and emotional vulnerability, and the way public perceptions of celebrity and scandal are formed.
