The Goonies’ Time is Now in Disney+ Re-Enactment Series

The Goonies-inspired spin-off dramedy, which was previously optioned at Fox, has found a new lease on life over at Disney+.

According to Variety, the streaming service has opted to resurrect the project that Fox decided to drop earlier this year.

The as-yet-untitled series, currently being referred to as “Our Time,” comes from “The Bold Type” and “Pure Genius” creator Sarah Watson under the production companies Gail Berman’s SideCar, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin and the Warner Bros. studio.

According to the projects IMDb page, the series follows Stella Cooper who, after failing in New York and burdened with a heavy secret, returns to her distressed automotive hometown to substitute teach. She finds inspiration, hope, and, ultimately, salvation when she agrees to help three students who are pursuing their cinematic dreams by putting together an impossibly ambitious, shot-for-shot remake of one of the students’ favorite films…. The Goonies. Over the course of the series, the characters’ passion will inspire a town desperately in need of hope in this love letter to the power of film, storytelling, and dreams.

Fox originally ordered a pilot back in February 2020, but it apparently “played a little too young for the network.”

Serving Executive Producers on the show include Watson, Gail Berman, Hend Baghdady, Lauren Shuler Donner, Richard Donner, who sadly passed away in July, and Amblin TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey.

In the meantime, we’ll leave you with a recent Josh Gad nostalgia trip that took him on a modern day treasure hunt to reunite the cast of the iconic 1985 movie.
