Danny Boyle Takes on The Pink Panthers

Following on from his psychedelic heist trip Trance, Danny Boyle is now attached to direct an adaptation of this year’s documentary, Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers.

Boyle felt an apparent ‘connection’ to the story after watching the documentary earlier this year, and soon after announced he was interested in directing a feature length adaptation of the dazzling diamond documentary.

Directed by Havana Marking and produced by Mike Lerner, Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers tells the story of the worlds greatest diamond thieves, and includes actual CCTV footage of the robberies and interviews with the gang members.

As of yet, there is no production schedule from co-producers Pathe and Fox Searchlight, and no-one on board to write a script. So, with the project still in its development stages, we expect a lot of exciting news to come.

In the meantime, Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers is releasing in cinemas on 16 October, digitally on 7 October and DVD on 21 October. We’ll leave you with the trailer below.
