You’re Dating a Narcissist, the feature debut from director Ann Marie Allison, is a rom-com that promises laughs, heartbreak, and a healthy dose of “do not ignore the red flags!” Brainstorm Media will release the film in theaters this Friday, March 27.
Allison, who co-wrote the script with Jenna Milly, also serves as a producer alongside Jorge Garcia Castro, Chris Abernathy, and Eric Fleishman.
The stellar ensemble cast is led by Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny, Spider-Man: Homecoming), with Sherry Cola (Joyride, “Shrinking”), Ciara Bravo (Cherry), Marco Pigossi (Bone Lake, “Gen V”), and José María Yazpik (The Burning Plain, Madame Web) rounding out the lineup.
The story follows Judy, a sharp-tongued psychology professor obsessed with exposing narcissists, who is shocked to discover that her daughter plans to marry a man she hardly knows. After flying across the country intent on convincing her daughter that her fiancé is a narcissist, Judy finds herself forced to choose between saving her daughter’s heart and confronting her own unresolved issues.
To mark the film’s release, CinemaChords sat down with Ciara Bravo and Marco Pigossi to discuss how the film encourages audiences to “laugh at the madness rather than be overwhelmed by it,” how being hypervigilant for red flags can sometimes make us a little narcissistic ourselves, and how the film might help audiences feel a bit braver about opening themselves up to love again.
