The classic Marvel character Spider-Man Noir will be swinging to the small screen in an exciting new live-action series coming soon to MGM+ and Prime Video. Titled simply “Noir,” this gritty 1930s-set drama will star Nicolas Cage as an aging, world-weary private investigator living in New York City who also happens to be the city’s only superhero. This marks Cage’s first regular TV role ever, reprising the character he previously voiced in the Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. According to Prime Video, the series will follow this down-on-his-luck P.I. as he’s forced to confront the demons of his past life as New York’s lone crimefighter.
The show is created by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will also serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They developed the series with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal who worked on “Into the Spider-Verse” and who will all also serve as executive producers. Harry Bradbeer will executive produce and direct the first two episodes. Pascal executive produces under the Pascal Pictures banner. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, with Lord and Miller currently under an overall deal at Sony.
Commenting on today’s news, Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios said, “Expanding the Marvel universe with ‘Noir’ is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers … The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character,” added Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. “Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”
“Noir” will debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel followed by a global launch on Prime Video.
