Intense Distribution and 101 Films Secure UK Rights for Banshee Chapter

After receiving its World Premiere during this year’s Film 4 Frightfest in London, Blair Erickson’s Banshee Chapter has gone on to scare festival-goers world wide and was awarded the ‘Scariest Film’ at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival. Given its monumentous success on the festival circuit it was only a matter of time before it was going to get picked up by a distributor in the UK with Intense Distribution and 101 Films jumping in for the catch.

Headed up by the likes of Katia Winter (Dexter), Ted Levine (The Silence of the Lambs), and Michael McMillian (True Blood), Banshee Chapter follows Anne Roland (Winter), a young journalist with an appetite for controversy, hot on the trail of a strange government research chemical that might have caused the death of her close friend (McMillian). Tracing the substance to the desert ranch of an infamous retired novelist (Levine), she finds herself drawn into an experience of terror and frightening entities that she cannot escape. The films is based on real documents, actual testimony, and evidence researched and uncovered from decades of a terrifying secret program run by the CIA.

UK-born and bred film-maker Chee Keong Cheung, who heads up Intense Distribution said:

“After such a strong response at both Frightfest and Toronto, together with 101 Films, we’re incredibly excited to have the opportunity to bring Banshee Chapter to UK audiences. It’s an extremely tense, atmospheric picture with a truly unique and horrific blend of fact and fiction.” … “Intense Distribution was formed with the goal of working closely with both established and up and coming directors and producers on their films and I couldn’t have hoped for a better, more passionate, diverse and talented group of filmmakers to work with for our companies debut release.”

We were fortunate enough to attend the Premiere at Film 4 Frightfest. This said, we weren’t over keen on the film despite it making us jump several times. However, looking back, our enjoyment may have also been affected by sleep depravation so we are glad that it has been picked up for UK distribution and we looking forward to giving the film a second chance.

Banshee Chapter’s UK release is due in January 2014 and we’ll leave you with a taster trailer below.
