First Need For Speed Trailer Cruises In

needforspeed_header

As this Sunday will witness the world’s Breaking Bad sendoff, we are relieved, to say the least, for a glimpse of Aaron Paul in the first trailer released for Dreamwork’s upcoming high-octane actioner, Need for Speed, based on the popular video game franchise of the same name.

Helmed by stuntman-turned-director Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) and adapted from a script from George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau, The Bourne Ultimatum) and John Gatins (Real Steel, Flight), Need for Speed takes Tobey Marshall (Paul), an underground street racer and ex-con, on a cross-country race in an attempt to seek revenge against a wealthy business associate who framed him for the murder of his best friend.

Joining Paul for the ride are a stellar cast including Imogen Poots (Filth), Dominic Cooper (Dead Man Down), Rami Malek (Oldboy), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) and Michael Keaton (RoboCop) with the film slated for a March 14, 2014 release date.

New Stills From Alexander Payne’s Nebraska

NEBRASKA

Following 2011’s Oscar-nominated success that was The Descendants, director Alexander Payne returns with the black and white road movie, Nebraska. Based on Bob Nelson‘s screenplay, the Nebraska born director captures the effortless acting of a father (Bruce Dern) who, convinced of having won a million dollars, drives off into a vanishing Midwest to claim his dubious fortune accompanied by his estranged son (Wil Forte).

Dern plays the taciturn Woody (for which he won best acting prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival) heading off on this 750-mile journey that seems unlikely given the fact he can barely waddle down the road a few blocks with outthe help of a few tipples to get him on his way. Saturday Night Live alum, Forte, known for the terminally underrated MacGruber character and Paul in 30 Rock bids farewell to the comedy routines for something steering much closer to drama as he plays Dern’s baffled son, David who tags along for the ride out of his growing concerns for his carousing father’s state of mind.

When Woody and David stop off at their hometown of Hawthorne word of Woody’s fortune gets around, instantly converting him into a returning hero, opening a peephole into the unseen lives of David’s parents and a past much more alive than he ever could have imagined.

Enjoy the trailer below together with brand new images from Nebraska which co-stars Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad and the upcoming spin-off series Better call Saul!) and Stacy Keach and is slated for a 6th December UK release. Click on the images below to enlarge them.

Big Ass Spider Gets a Big Ass Trailer

big_ass_spider

Further to the SXSW 2013 Midnighters section debut of Mike Mendez’s (The Convent, The Gravedancers) creature comedy feature, Big Ass Spider, Epic Pictures has now released the official theatrical trailer.

The film, directed by Mendez and adapted from a screenplay written by Gregory Gieras (Beyond, Dark Island), stars Greg Grunberg (Heroes, Mission: Impossible 3) as a blue collar exterminator and Lombardo Boyar (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as a security guard doing their utmost to save Los Angeles as chaos erupts when a giant spider escapes from a secret military lab. Despite all the cringe worthy images I’m sure are already brewing in your heads, truth be told the trailer is actually laden with some half decent SFX and the cast and action scenes do look quite fun.

With a supporting cast featuring the likes of Clare Kramer (The Gravedancers), Ray Wise (The Aggression Scale), Lin Shaye (Insidious: Chapter 2), Patrick Bauchau (Get the Gringo) and Lloyd Kaufman could this creepy crawly steal Sharknado’s highly sought after B-movie crown when it simultaneously heads to cinemas and VOD this October 18th in the US. There’s no confirmed UK release date as of yet although a lucky few were able catch a screening of the film at this year’s Dead by Dawn Horror Film Festival.

Here’s the full theatrical trailer for Big Ass Spider:

Gravity IMAX 3D Featurette: Don’t Let Go of Your Seats

GRAVITY2

Just a couple of weeks until Alfonso Cuaron’s stunning space-set thriller, Gravity releases in the US and a new featurette reveals just how much IMAX 3D will play with cinemagoers’ senses. Given the film’s clear intentions to transmit not only zero gravity’s dizzing sensations but also the sheer fear of being alone in space, it was only natural that Cuaron would want to use all his resources.

Whilst the film itself has generally received nothing short of praise, this is set to be one spectacle not to be missed on an IMAX 3D screen near you. As you will see in the new featurette below, released by Warner Bros., the director’s use of the 3D format intends to immerse audiences into this solitary space setting assuring us that it’s not just a novelty add-on used as an excuse to pump up cinema ticket prices.

Cuaron, Sandra Bullock, and the film’s producer David Heyman all feature in the video below as they guarantee just how much the 3D effect really adds to this whole new space odyssey.

We’ll leave you with the featurette for Gravity. Don’t let go of your seats when it releases in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on October 4th in the US and November 8th here in the UK.

Let The Counsellor Rattle Your Cage

The Counsellor Quad

Online 1$_AW Fassbender_[26042] The CounsellorThere’s no denying that upcoming film, The Counsellor has some ridiculously hard hitters in its corner. Not only does direction from from the hand of the Alien/Blade Runner/Gladiator visionary Ridley Scott, but Cormac McCarthy, responsible for the novels No Country For Old Men and The Road is on scripting duties.

Reconciling with Scott after their collaboration in the recent Prometheus is Michael Fassbender who has more than proven his pliability when slipping into such diverse roles in the likes of Inglourious Basterds, Fish Tank or X-Men: First Class. Now Fassbender stars as an eponymous legal counsellor ending up in some serious bother when he finds himself embroiled in the world of drug trafficking. Throw in the talented ensemble cast that is Javier Bardem, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz and this could well be one of those sleeper hits we were all waiting for.

With The Counsellor arriving in cinemas across the UK this November 15th, we’ll leave you with another peek of what to expect with a brand new film clip. Entitled ‘Rattling Your Cage,’ the clip expands on a scene we got a glimpse of in recent trailers featuring Malkina (Cameron Diaz) as she does her best to rattle the religious Laura’s cage (Penélope Cruz).

Blue is the Warmest Color U.S. Trailer Released

1369215_701186893244090_390750528_n

We all have been waiting for the Blue is the Warmest Color trailer for what seems to be an eternity. The official premiere at the Cannes Festival back in May 2013 had kept us all hanging on. When Adbellatif Kechiche’s movie won the Palme d’Or, audience anticipation for this film grew even stronger.

Well, the trailer is finally here!

It is a captivating premise to what will surely become a classic of New Queer Cinema. The simple waterfall of emotions to the tune of Beach House is a piece of art of its own. The mute characters displayed here are another attempt to keep the mystery alive until you get the chance to watch the full movie. For the UK, you will have to wait until the 15th of November to rush to your movie theater. Lucky for me, it will be shown at the Vancouver International Film Festival in a few days…

The French drama – based on the graphic novel by Julie Maroh – focuses on Adèle’s self-discovery and her love story with Emma, a blue-haired art student. The sublime Adèle Exarchopoulos / Léa Seydoux duo received critical acclaim for their performance. Blue is the Warmest Color has already been described as the first great love story of the 21st century. Expect some pretty realistic sensual scenes between the two actresses. In an interview earlier this year, Adèle and Léa were asked « What shouldn’t you think about during a sex scene ? ». Adèle looked into Léa’s eyes and simply stated : « I shouldn’t think… That I have my nose in your asshole.»

carrie2013

All of thirty-five years after Brian De Palma’s Oscar Nominated film, Carrie scared a generation of teens, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s accepted the challenge of providing a screenplay which he promised would be more faithful to the Stephen King novel.

Aguirre-Sacasa recently rewrote the Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark script and made a name for himseld as an accomplished comic-book author. Fans of the 1976 original should rest assured as the writer is more than familiar with the King oeuvre having recently created a comic bood based on The Stand.

Despite the fact that the Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry, Stop-Loss) directed remake suffered more than a few delays to make things even scarier, the finished product is now ready for you all to accompany it to the prom and Total Film have released an exclusive featurette boasting cast interviews and never-before-seen footage.

Chloë Grace Moretz will step into the rather large shoes of Sissy Spacek, playing the role of the tormented teenager, accompanied by co-stars Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Judy Greer, and Portia Doubleday.

TIFF 2013 Alexandre Aja’s Horns Footage

DI-Daniel-Radcliffe-Horns-2

Director Alexandre Aja‘s latest outing, Horns, premiered at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival this week and can best be described as a supernatural horror/romance, but don’t let that put you off. The script is adapted from the novel of the same name from writer Joe Hill (son of a certain Stephen King) who is certainly at the top of his horror/fantasy game and he worked in close collaboration with Aja to create the final script (read our Aja interview here for more details).

The first actual clip from the film has now been released and shows Daniel Radcliffe potraying the desperate protagonist, Ig, whose girlfriend (Juno Temple) is brutally raped and murdered, with everyone believing Ig is to blame. Whilst Radcliffe’s character finds himself with the devilish power to influence people’s minds, unfortunatelt for him he is powerless to convince anyone to perform good deeds.

One question on everybody’s mind has long been “Won’t everyone get a bit suspicious with those great big horns on his brow?” and the answer is simple: No one ever suspects a thing thanks to his new found mind control powers, even when he heads to the local GP for a check up.

Based on early festival reviews Horns is still high up there on our list of films to see and, with Lionsgate having picked up the UK distribution rights, it is expected to release some time in 2014. We’ll leave you with the aforementioned clip via Collider.

Three Killer Clips as Curse of Chucky Closes In

CurseofChucky-thumb-630xauto-40835

With just a couple of weeks to wait until our favourite Good Guy doll blasts back onto the screen in the latest Child’s Play franchise installment, Curse of Chucky, Universal has unleashed three exclusive new clips.

Said clips certainly replicate the underlying tension that played a pivotal role in the 1988 original. Considering the baggage fans will be bringing along, some 25 years later, franchise creators Don Mancini and David Kirschner certainly have their work cut out but if anyone can pull it off then it has to be this duo.

Directed by Mancini, from his own script, Curse of Chucky cuts to the bare essentials as the pint-sized plaything, inhabited by the spirit of notorious serial killer Charles Lee Ray (voiced again by Brad Dourif), is delivered on the doorstep of the unsuspecting Nica (Fiona Dourif, True Blood) swiftly resulting in bloodshed and chaos.

The film also stars A Martinez (Longmire), Danielle Bisutti (Insidious: Chapter 2, Get Smart) and Brennan Elliott (Flight 93, Double Jeopardy) and releases in the US digitally on the 24th of September followed by the Blu-ray and DVD release on the 8th of October. The film gets a slightly later release date in the UK on Blu-ray and DVD on the 21st of October.

Enjoy the three clips below, followed by all the gory details of the Blu-ray and DVD bonus features:

curse-of-chucky-bluray-810x1024Blu-ray and DVD Bonus Features:
– Deleted Scenes and Blooper Reel
– Playing with Dolls: The Making of Curse of Chucky – A special featurette proving that playing with dolls is anything but child’s play. This video takes us on a ride with the cast and crew as they bring the latest and scariest chapter in the series to the screen.
– Feature Commentary with Don Mancini, Fiona Dourif and Puppeteer Tony Gardner.

Blu-ray Exclusive Bonus Features:
– Storyboard Comparisons
– Living Doll: Bringing Chucky to Life – This special feturette shows the pain-staking work put in by animatronics company Alterian to bring our “friend to the end” to life and the army of people involved behind the scenes.
– Voodoo Doll: The Chucky Legacy – This special featurette takes a look at just why we are all still so frightened by the red haired terror more than six films and a quarter of a century later and recalls some of fans’ favorite moments from the entire franchise.

First RoboCop Revamp Trailer. We’d Buy That For a Dollar

Robocop-Remake

Following the exclusive first footage shown at this year’s Comic-Con the first trailer has now been revealed for director José Padilha‘s MGM remake of RoboCop which finds Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as Murphy, the resuscitated cyborg officer designed to protect and serve, alongside co-stars Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton and Abbie Cornish.

Based on the trailer we think it’s safe to say that the new suit(s) are not the Dark Knight’s hand-me-downs everyone was complaining about and the storyline looks to mix up the 1987 original somewhat rather than being a straightforward revamp. Mind you, that was pretty much to be expected considering the writers on board: Josh Zetumer who has written the upcoming Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Shia Labeouf team-up film Villain, and Nick Shenk (Gran Torino).

Both Kinnaman and Oldman will also be appearing together in Daniel Espinosa’s Child 44 some time next year alongside Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace. The film is set in Stalin-era Soviet Union with a disgraced MGB agent investigating a case involving a series of child murders with the trailer of clues taking him to the very top of party leadership.

Back to the matter in hand though. RoboCop will take to the streets in 2014 as the reboot is set to reach the UK on the 7th of February. We’ll leave you with the aforementioned trailer. Your move, Creep.

OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

Visually Stunning Trailer for The Young and Prodigious Spivet

spivet 4

Last May saw The Young and Prodigious Spivet get picked up for US distribution by the Weinstein Company. The film, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, Micmacs) is an adaptation of the illustrated novel “The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet” by Reif Larsen and will star newcomer Kyle-Catlett in the lead role as Spivet, a young inventor, alongside co-stars Helena Bonham Carter, Niamh Wilson and Judy Davis.

The novel was a charming piece of work in its own right, with each turn of a page revealing a different diagram, illustration or map. Given the stunning visuals on display in the trailer below it’s no surprise that the film is already planned for an IMAX release when it hits France this October.

Although there is no date slated for a UK release date just yet, the film’s world premiere will be very close to home as it closes this year’s San Sebastián Film Festival on the 28th of September. Jeunet will be putting in an appearance to introduce the film himself, accompanied by both Kyle Catlett and Helena Bonham Carter.

We’ll leave you with the trailer below, followed by a number of stunning photos showing off the amazing visuals of the film (click for full size images):
