1st UK Trailer for ‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’

Mandela_trailer

For those who can’t get enough of Idris Elba – me for one, particularly hooked to the current season of Luther – today we have the first-look trailer and posters for Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

The film, headed up by an ensemble British cast, with Elba starring as Nelson Mandela and Naomi Harris as Winnie, spans the extraordinary life of the South African President chronicling his childhood in a rural village, his coming of age, education and 27 years in prison before becoming the first democratically elected South African President and working to rebuild the country’s once segregated society.

The biopic is directed by Justin Chadwick (The First Grader, The Other Boleyn Girl) working on a script by William Nicholson, responsible for scribing the likes of Les Miserables and Gladiator. Anant Singh (Material, Prey) is producing and began talks with Mandela about basing a film on his life whilst he was still in prison and went on to purchase the film rights to the autobiography when it was published back in 1996.

Mandela himself certainly seems more than confident that the rights went to right person having commented:

“Anant Singh is a producer I respect very much. Given the resources and backing, he will produce a work of the highest standards and excellence, and it is for that reason, I opted for him.”

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is slated for a UK release on the 3rd of January, 2014 and also stars Terry Pheto, Robert Hobbs, Grant Swanby, Mark Elderkin, Garth Breytenbach and Theo Landey. We’ll leave you with the trailer and two first-look images of Idris Elba and Naomie Harris.

‘How To Train Your Dragon 2’ Trailer Swoops In

how_to_train_your_dragon_2

When Jay Baruchel’s Hiccup flew into cinemas in 2010 in the original animated movie How To Train Your Dragon the instant box office returns had DreamWorks rubbing their hands with the franchise material they had unleashed.

Promptly afterwards a Cartoon Network TV series, Dragons: Riders Of Berka, found its way onto the smaller screen, and, whilst failing to fly as hight as the feature film that flew before it, it certainly provided something to chomp on in short fiery breaths until now! Today we can bring you the first trailer for Hiccup and company’s 2nd (of three) big screen adventure, How To Train Your Dragon 2, with Dean DeBlois, co-director of the original, at the helm.

Rather than combining highlights from the film, the first trailer provides a single clip but it confirms fans that the sequel certainly retains that delectable charm that made the first such a hit with kids and adults alike.
How To Train Your Dragon 2 is scheduled for a UK release in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on 4 July 2014 featuring the voice acting talents of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig.

As you’ll see from the trailer below,  we’re not quite sure who’s been training who this time round…

Christian Bale Out For Justice in ‘Out of the Furnace’ Trailer

trailer_out_of_the_furnace

The first trailer for Scott Cooper’s Out of the Furnace does an excellent job of teasing us the solid performances not only of leads, Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson, but also the excellent supporting cast including the likes of Casey Affleck, Sam Shepard and Zoe Saldana.

Cooper directed Out of the Furnace based on an original script he co-wrote in collaboration with Brad Ingelsby with  Pearl Jam’s track ‘Release’ cited as an inspiration so it’s more than fitting that the song is used as the trailer’s soundtrack. This is also a great showcase for the work of director of photography Masanobu Takayanagi (Warrior, The Grey) who once again pulls off the look and feel of an absorbing backdrop, this time that of a decaying factory town.

The film follows Russell Baze (Bale), a steel-mill worker whose brother Rodney (Affleck) gets caught up with a local crime ring, who he swiftly crosses the wrong way and ends up going missing. When all efforts to discover his brother’s whereabouts fail, the only option left for Baze is to take the law into his own hands, with the help of his uncle Red (Sam Shepard), to find out what really happened to his brother and serve justice.

Out of the Furnace is slated for a 29 November, 2013 release date in the UK and we’ll leave you with the aforementioned trailer:

Discover Tom Hanks’ Portrayal of Walt Disney in 1st ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ Trailer

walt_disney_tom_hanks_saving_mr_banks

Disney has released the first-look trailer for The Blind Side director, John Lee Hancock‘s Saving Mr. Banks, which stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney (the first time the animation icon has been portrayed on the big screen) and Emma Thompson as ‘Mary Poppins’ author P.L. Travers.

The film sets out to follow Disney and Travers on the long and winding production journey to adapt the novel for the silver screen. Bumpy in the sense that Disney initially tried to purchase the film rights in 1938, with the final product only seeing the light of day in 1964. This was the result of the author’s reluctance as she believed a film version wouldn’t do justice to her creation and at that time Disney studios were yet to produce a live action film.

Saving Mr. Banks opens on the 17th of January, 2014 in the UK. Penned by Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey) the two lead actors are supported by the likes of Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti, B. J. Novak and Jason Schwartzman.

We’ll leave you with the aforementioned first trailer:

‘Seventh Son’ 1st Trailer Pits Jeff Bridges Against All Manner of Evil

seventh_son_trailer_poster_jeff_bridges

Warner Bros. UK has unleashed the not only the first-look trailer but also the artwork [above] for the upcoming feature film SEVENTH SON, adapted from Joseph Delaney‘s first book of The Wardstone Chronicles series, The Spook’s Apprentice.

This new trailer finds Jeff Bridges playing Master Gregory, a warrior-come-exorcist joined by new apprentice Thomas Ward (Ben Barnes). Thomas, the seventh son of a seventh son, joins forces with Gregory in a struggle against all manner of dark forces in the 1700s, culminating in a battle with Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), the queen of evil. To make matters worse, Tom falls head over heels in love with young witch, Alice (Alicia Vikander).

With this being an adaptation of the first novel in the series, we could be in for a number of sequels but, given yesterday’s news of Legendary leaving Seventh Son‘s production company Warner Bros. to form a new partnership with Universal, this could be tricker than first planned but we’re sure is certainly not off the cards.

We’ll leave you with the aforementioned first trailer.

Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory.  In a deadly reunion, Gregory comes face to face with the evil he always feared would someday return.  Now he has only until the next full moon to do what normally takes years: train his new apprentice, Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) to fight a dark magic unlike any other.

Man’s only hope lies in the seventh son of a seventh son.

‘Cold Prey’ Director’s Action-Thriller ‘Escape’ Released July 29

Escape-image123435

Entertainment One have unleashed the UK trailer for the upcoming Norwegian thriller Escape which is released on DVD and digital download this 29th July.

Both the director (Roar Uthaug) and star (Ingrid Bolsø BerdalChernobyl Diaries) of the critically acclaimed Norwegian international hit Cold Prey join forces again for this new project described as a fine blend of the best of the likes of The Hunger Games and Mad Max.

Escape is a tense action-thriller set ten years after the Back Pague, pitting a young girl, Signe (Isabel Christine Andreasen), against brutal warriors, led by the vicious and beautiful Dagmar (played by Berdal). When Signe and her family is taken hostage and only she is spared, she meets fellow kidnap victim Frigg (Milla Olin) at the gang’s camp only to discover that there are even worse things to come. The only option she is left with is to plan her escape but, of course, Dagmar isn’t going to make it easy.

Coming from the director of Cold Prey, expect gorgeous scenery backdrops for one of the fastest paced action thrillers you’ll catch this year.

The DVD also comes exclusively brimming with bonus features in the form of a visual effects featurette, deleted scenes and a blooper reel.

We’ll leave you with the aforementioned UK DVD release trailer.

‘Oldboy’ Gets 1st Trailer as Promised

oldboy-poster-trailer-josh-brolin

As promised the first proper glimpse of the Spike Lee‘s take on Park Chan-wook‘s Oldboy comes in the form of an exclusive trailer from Yahoo movies.

Based on the trailer it certainly confirms that Lee is making the remake for all the right reasons in the sense that we won’t be going into a simple fan service remake. This fact was already highlighted in the casting of lead actor Josh Brolin as he couldn’t be farther from Min-sik Choi in the original and we’re sure he will bring a a totally different emotional edge to the character’s violent journey compared to that of Min-sik Choi in the original.

In spite of teh above, something that was surprising and that we’re most intrigued to see is how Lee’s take on the hammer crazy hallway scene from the original is pulled off – certainly one of his riskiest career decision yet given the cult status of said scene. Check out the trailer below and we’re sure those who ere put off at the idea of a remake may find a bit of faith restored.

Oldboy opens in theaters on October 25th.

Sick, Twisted, Sexy, Depraved, Warped and Dirty New ‘Filth’ Trailer

filth-main

What better way to drag you into the trailer for a film going by the name of Filth than bold yellow words such as sick, twisted, sexy, depraved, warped and dirty?

Although this is the third international trailer released for the film so far, it has been announced as the very first ‘full’ trailer. It’s great to see James McAvoy, as always, as he tackles this adaptation of the 1998 Irvine Welsh novel of the same name and the film certainly looks all set to pack in the blunt, raunchy tone we are accustomed to from said author. Direction and screenplay scribing duties come from the hand of Jon S. Baird who Exec. Produced, directed and penned Cass in 2008.

James McAvoy is the films anti-hero, starring as a corrupt policeman, who will stop at nothing to get the promotion he wants. Assigned to solve a brutal murder case be sets about making sure his colleagues aspirations never come to fruition by ensuring their ruin. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce’s world starts to fall to pieces all around him in a web of deceit. His past begins to creep up on him with a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues all taking their toll on his sanity.

Released on September 27th in Scotland and October 4th elsewhere in the UK, audiences will discover if McAvoy’s character keeps a grip on his sanity long enough to disentangle himself from the filth.

We’ll leave you with the aforementioned new full length trailer for Filth which also stars Jamie Bell, Jim Broadbent, Imogen Poots and Eddie Marsan.

Tarzan in Tree-D

Tarzan-3D-1poster

A brand new version of Tarzan is heading for cinemas this year, animated using motion capture performances and designed to be seen in 3D.

The film was directed by Reinhard Klooss (Animals United) and financed by the German studio Constantin Film (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones). The studio has just released a stunning trailer for the film in German, which gives a good example of what to expect.

The tale lends itself naturally to 3D with all the swinging through the trees and jumping from irresponsible heights. The English language voice cast will include Kellan Lutz (Emmett the Vampire in ‘Twilight’), as Tarzan himself, and Spencer Locke (Resident Evil: Afterlife) as Jane Porter. Warner Brothers also have a live-action version in development with True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard in the title role.

1st Frenetic Extended Clip From ‘The Wolverine’

wolverine_train_clip

With just a couple of weeks to wait until The Wolverine hits cinemas this 26th of July, 20th Century Fox has released the first full clip from the film providing a taste of the action packed ride audiences are in for.

The clip features a scene that has already cropped up in a number of trailers already released: the bullet train fight. The film’s director, James Mangold certainly displayed his firm grip on action choreography direction in the recent Knight and Day so it’s a fair bet we can expect something to parallel or even better Tom Cruise’s death defying stunts.

As long as you can leave realism in the foyer as you enter the cinema this could be THE superhero film this year. Enjoy the clip below and let us know what you think in the comments section.

[youtube_sc url=5OKT5YceMCQ]

The Wolverine stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Svetlana Khodchenkova, and Tao Okamoto and opens on the 26th of July.
