It’s no laughing matter… CLOWN is on its way to Blu-Ray & DVD!

Famous on-screen clowns like Captain Spaulding, The Joker and Pennywise might play to the tropes of your everyday clown but are far more dangerous as they take great pride in adding elements of horror and dark humour in the mix. So if you are like me and can be turned into a shivering wreck at the very thought of being in the presence of clowns then we have some bad news for you (but something exciting for the rest of you).

Continuing in the tradition of films such as It and House of 1000 Corpses, Director John Watts CLOWN is further proof there’s nothing more terrifying than a killer clown.

CLOWN (2014)

When the entertainer hired for his son’s sixth birthday party is a no-show, doting father Kent dons a clown outfit himself. But after the festivities, he finds he can’t take it off – the bulbous nose is stuck to his face, the frizzy wig glued to his hair and the make-up permanently etched on his features. Too late he learns the costume is the skin of an ancient demon and his family must race to break the curse before the transformation into a homicidal killer with outsize shoes is complete.

Starring Peter Stormare (Fargo; Jurassic Park: The Lost World), CLOWN is utterly shameless in its love of splatter and gore and will be having its UK Premiere at Frightfest Glasgow 2015 before it is unleashed on DVD & Blu-Ray 2nd March 2015.

Is V/H/S Viral’s Todd Lincoln no longer lost in his Gorgeous Vortex?

Festival fans including myself might have mixed feelings when it comes to the third instalment of the popular found footage franchise for a number of reasons. Some didn’t like it because it didn’t seem to share the same ferocity of the previous two instalments and it never quite got up to scratch. During its festival run and during its American VOD and limited cinema release one thing had everyone scratching their heads. V/H/S Viral’s fourth segment Gorgeous Vortex had wrongly reported as having been ‘deleted’ from the film which has sparked a whole host of rumours as to why.

Bloody Disgusting have been teasing us for a while with this promotional pic from GORGEOUS VORTEX but what is the secret?

None of the other directors Marcel Sarmiento (Dead Girl), Gregg Bishop (Dance of the Dead), Nacho Vigalondo (Open Windows) or even Aaron Moorhead & Justin Benson (Spring) stayed quiet and refused to answer questions why. So it comes as good news after the popular genre magazine Fangoria announced that fans of the franchise will actually get a chance to experience Todd Lincoln‘s so called ‘missing’ segment Gorgeous Vortex as it will be included in the US home release of V/H/S VIRAL which is dated for 17th February 2015. Not much is known about his segment but we are told by BLOODY DISGUSTING that “…fans who grew up in the 90′s are going to explode with what we did…”

Full extras for the US release include: Audio commentary by the directors, “AXS TV: A Look at V/H/S: VIRAL”, “Bonestorm”: Behind-the-scenes featurette, FX storyboards, galleries, “Dante the Great”: “Behind the Magic,” photo gallery, Director interviews.

There is still no news about a UK release of the film but you know very well that we are looking forward to checking out the ‘missing’ segment when it hits our shores.

Brace Yourselves…. Dead Snow 2 is coming!

If you’re a regular visitor to Cinema Chords you will know that we have been talking about this one ever since we first caught it at Film4 Frightfest over the August Bank holiday. So without further ado we are delighted to confirm that DEAD SNOW 2: RED VS. DEAD will be available across the UK on DVD and Blu-ray from 12th January 2015.

Returning to direct the sequel to his 2009 cult phenomenon, Tommy Wirkola‘s DEAD SNOW 2: RED VS DEAD has become a hit on the worldwide festival circuit and is in every way bigger, better, bolder and bloodier that the first. Exceeding all expectations without sacrificing pace or humour there is no denying that this is how sequels should be made.

With his friends brutally murdered by the evil General Herzog and his squadron of Nazi zombies, our hero Martin (Vegar Hoel) wakes up in hospital attempting to convince the local authorities that he is not responsible for their deaths. Little do they know the undead fascists are very much still ‘living’ and marching on the town and what’s worse, they have a tank!

Severed heads and shoulders above the first instalment, DEAD SNOW 2: RED VS DEAD has a wickedly dark sense of humour and is truly one of the funniest films of the year filled with outrageous gore and jaw-dropping visual gags that are unlike anything you have ever seen before.

Here is what the press has to say about the film:

“The best Nazi zombie film ever made” Dread Central

“This is not to be missed” Hollywood News

“ A bloody blast from beginning to end” JoBlo

“The ultimate in gross-out horror with heavy helpings of side-splitting humour” CineVue

“The Nazis angrier, the kills gorier, the battles more spectacular, and the taste poorer” IGN

Special Features include:

“The Arm” Short Film VFX Breakdown Director’s Commentary

Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead will be available on Blu-ray & DVD Monday 12th January 2015 with the Dead Snow 1&2 film collection also available on DVD.

Follow the Signs to an Exclusive In Fear Screening

IN FEAR is all set for its DVD & Blu-ray release this 10 MARCH 2014 and to celebrate the event, StudioCanal (in collaboration with TOTAL FILM magazine) is hosting an exclusive screening event at The Prince Charles Cinema.

That’s right, it’s your very last chance to perch on the very edge of your cinema seat to enjoy this tense psychological horror on the big screen. The special event takes place at 6.30pm on Monday 10th March, and the audience are also in for an extra special treat in the form of an exclusive Q&A with the Director Jeremy Lovering – hosted by TOTAL FILM’s Editor-at-Large Jamie Graham.

Cinema Chords also has a special treat this week as Howard Gorman also had a chat with Jeremy Lovering to discuss the film so stay tuned for that also.

Metrodome Acquires 2 Top Festival Favourites for 2014

Calling all horror fans! Metrodome, one of the UK’s biggest distributors, has recently broken a deal and acquired two particularly fantastic horror titles which will be released for home entertainment in 2014.

First up is Almost Human. directed and written by Joe BegosAlmost Human is a horror/science fiction mashup starring Josh EthierGraham Skipper and Vanessa Leigh. It tells the story of Mark Fisher, a man who is taken in a flash of blue light leaving behind his best friend Seth and his girlfriend Jen. Fast forward two years later and Mark is mysteriously returned a changed man leaving a string of murders in his wake. Focused on finding out what happened to Mark, Seth and Jen team up to solve the mystery and find a way to stop the evil inside him before he can kill again.

Echoing such films as The Thing and Invasion of the Body SnatchersAlmost Human is a love letter to ’80s horror and is rich with low-budget effects that are fun to watch and add to the overall enjoyment of the film.

Also picked up by Metrodome is The Battery which is an impressive zombie film directed and written by Jeremy Gardner and tells the story of two former baseball players who team up after a zombie apocalypse in order to survive. Sticking to the back roads of a desolate New England the pair must over come the differences in each other’s personality in order to survive. But when one of them intercepts a radio transmission from a protected community calling themselves The Orchard, one of them will not stop at anything to find them.

What is special about The Battery is that the film focuses on the two leads played by Adam Cronheim and Gardner himself and deals with the zombie apocalypse as a catalyst rather than a point of focus. The film offers solid performances but its soundtrack offers a unique juxtaposition to the film making it that much more of an enjoyable experience.

The release dates for both films have yet to be confirmed so in the meantime we recommend checking out the trailers for both movies.
