American Hustle (20 December)
Fresh off of the success of Silver Linings Playbook comes the newest film from David O. Russell, a filmmaker who has proven himself time and time again to be one of the most versatile directors of his generation. This time, Russell is trading the romantic comedy genre for the crime drama with American Hustle, with a cast that reads like a greatest hits listing for his filmography; The Fighter’s Christian Bale and Amy Adams and Silver Linings Playbook’s Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper star in American Hustle, along with the twice-Oscar-nominated Jeremy Renner. If you like crime films, or even if you don’t, it’s hard not to get excited about American Hustle given the huge amount of talent behind it. If that’s not enough to sway you, Eric Warren Singer’s screenplay should: it ranked number eight on the 2010 Black List, which is comprised of the best unproduced screenplays currently on the market.
