The Lathums Return After Over a Year With ‘Vice Versa’, Channelling Questions of Identity

The Lathums Vice Versa

The Lathums have shared their first new music in more than a year with the release of new single ‘Vice Versa’, available today (Friday 17 July 2026). The Wigan indie four-piece have also premiered an accompanying official music video, marking their first release since 2025’s Matter Does Not Define.

Built around bright indie-pop guitar work and frontman Alex Moore’s characteristically introspective lyricism, Vice Versa continues the band’s focus on emotionally driven songwriting. The release arrives following a relatively quiet period since the band’s third studio album, during which they have limited their live appearances while continuing to perform a selection of headline and festival dates.

Speaking about the new track, Moore described ‘Vice Versa’ as “about identity, dependence, fear and navigating life.” The song also explores themes of belonging, with the accompanying video developed to reflect what Moore calls “a feeling of not fully belonging in the world we’ve built around ourselves.

Despite The Lathums’ recent run of chart success—including multiple UK No. 1 albums—and an expanding live profile that has seen them play sold-out headline shows while attracting growing audiences across the country, Moore says questions surrounding identity and place remain central to his songwriting.

The release of Vice Versa signals the band’s return with new material after more than 12 months and coincides with a busy run of summer and autumn live dates. The Lathums are scheduled to perform alongside Richard Ashcroft at London’s Alexandra Palace Park today (17 July), before appearances at Splendour, Kendal Calling and Leeds Festival. Later in the year, they will join Courteeners for a series of UK arena shows.
