On 21st of November 2013, Catching Fire, the long-awaited sequel to the 2012 box office hit The Hunger Games will be released in cinemas across the UK. Based on the novel by Suzanne Collins, the film continues the story of Katniss Everdeen as she returns home to District 12 after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games with fellow winner Peeta Mellark.
After a short reunion with her friends and family both Katniss and Peeta are taken away to complete a Victory Tour of all the 12 districts of Panem. As a sense of rebellion brews in the districts the duo are forced to compete one last time in the Quarter Quell, an event taking place every 25 years where the tributes are reaped from the existing pool of victors in what can be considered as The Hunger Games: All Stars.
So with victors of past Hunger Games returning to fight to the death we have taken the time to introduce some new faces that you will get to know in the upcoming movie:
Sam Claflin is Finnick Odair.
A victor from the fishing district of Panem, Odair’s weapon of choice is a trident. Known for his physical attributes that are not only strong but very easy on the eye. Finnick has plenty of heart and enters the game with his mentor Mags. As an actor, Claflin was last seen in Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides and in Snow White and the Huntsman.
Jenna Malone is Johanna Mason.
A devious Hunger Games victor who hails from the Lumber district of Panem. Her weapon of choice may be throwing axes but her mind is just as deadly. As an actress Malone has appeared in many films and tv shows and is most recognised for her appearance in films such as Donnie Darko and Suckerpunch.
Lynn Cohen is Mags.
Finnick’s mentor, she also hails from the fishing district of Panem. Just like Katniss, Mags volunteers to protect another and faces entering the Hunger Games in her 80s. In the film, via a shared compassion Katniss and Mags naturally draw to one another. As an actress, Lynn Cohen has a vast number of roles under her belt but Catching Fire marks her step out into the mainstream.
Amanda Plummer is Wiress.
One of the older competitors of the third quarter quell who hails from the technology district of Panem. It is said her weapon of choice is a coil but her strategic mind is also her strongest asset. As an actress, Plummer is certainly a character actress and played small roles in films that includes Pulp Fiction.
Jeffrey Wright is Beetee.
Like Wiress he hails from the technology district of Panem. His weapon of choice is electricity which gains him the nickname of voltz. Another character actor, Wright has appeared in many small roles but maybe Catching Fire will be the platform needed to raise his profile with mainstream audiences.
Meta Golding is Enobaria
Hailing from the Masonry district of Panem she is one of the most fiercest competitors in the Quarter Quell. Her weapon of choice is throwing knifes but with razor sharp teeth she could also rip out your throat. A definite foe, her enemies will have to keep their wits about them if they want to stay one step ahead of her. As an actress Golding has appeared on many TV shows but none have been as popular as CSI and Criminal Minds.
So there you have it. Six new characters and all of which will certainly add something spectacular to the mix making Catching Fire one film this year that you will not want to miss.
