Southampton born and bred trio The Manatees (Jay Harris [vocals/guitar], Tyler Bloor [lead guitar] and James Miller [bass]) shared their latest single, ‘The Sound’ last week, which racked up rave reviews across the board and landed the band some much-deserved radio play from the likes of Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1 as part of his “Next Wave” feature, Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music, as well as an editorial add on Spotify.
Another perfect blend of classic and contemporary rock, ‘The Sound’ marries the best of indie and alt-rock worlds, whilst seamlessly delivering the bands sui generis soundscape through the infusion of infectious hip-hop samples, funk-inspired bass lines and grinding guitars … and arguably the most infectiously catchy chorus yet.
To celebrate the release of this, the lead track of their soon-to-be-released ‘Dream in Colour’ EP (pre-save here), CinemaChords’ Howard Gorman caught up with Harris and Bloor to find out what the band has been up to over the better part of a year since their last release, the single ‘Naturally’, their recent partnering with Fierce Panda, and what fans can expect from their imminent EP and subsequent headline tour across the UK.
