Could Lucy actually be the new Leon?
Luc Besson‘s Leon: The Professional is an action classic featuring Jean Reno‘s milk-loving hitman, Gary Oldman‘s insane and legendary villain and Natalie Portman in her first, and one of her best roles, as a young girl out for revenge. The question on everybody’s lips is whether Besson can deliver another excellent action film with Lucy.
Besson couldn’t have chosen a better lead woman for his film; Scarlett Johansson is fast becoming an action star to be reckoned with. Her skills are demonstrated in full in the new Marvel film Captain America: The Winter Soldier. If you haven’t seen her in that then you are really missing out.
It is the ability she demonstrates in Winter Soldier which makes us pretty hopeful for Lucy. This sci-fi tale concerns a woman who runs as a drug-mule for powerful gangsters, but who accidentally takes the drug into her system, giving her incredible superpowers. It’s outlandish, it’s a little crazy, but that premise may just turn out to be a hell of a lot of fun.
Lucy also stars Morgan Freeman, Analeigh Tipton and Min-sik Choi. It hits the UK on August 22nd.
