Grimmfest Announces 2014 Line-up

Grimmfest is returning to Manchester between 2nd and 5th October and will bring with it a whole hosts of special events, previews and Q&A’s as well as a few more surprises along the way. Not too long ago we covered the opening gala line-up for the upcoming event and we’re delighted to share with you the full line up for 2014.

Starting off with a bang, Grimmfest’s opening night gala will host the World Premiere of Melanie Light‘s short film THE HERD. Following The Herd will be the English Premiere of Brian O’Malley‘s horror LET US PREY. Attending the festival for a Q&A following the film will be Pollyanna McIntoshLiam CunninghamDouglas RussellHanna Stanbridge and Brian O’Malley. Following that will be the UK premiere of Richard Bates Jr‘s SUBURBAN GOTHIC starring Matthew Gray Gubler (500 Days of Summer), Kat Dennings (Thor), Ray Wise (Robocop), Jeffrey Combs (Reanimator), and John Waters

On the Friday something awesome as Grimmfest will be honoured by the presence of the Italian 70′s progressive rock legends behind some of Horrors best scores: CLAUDIO SIMONETTI’S GOBLIN! Who will be performing a very special LIVE score to Dario Argento’s horror classic SUSPIRIA. This will prove to be a truly special event as it will be performed at The Dancehouse in Manchester, home to the Northern Ballet School. Following it will be a screening of DAWN OF THE DEAD: THE ARGENTO CUT which was also sound tracked by the special guests of the night!

As for the rest of the weekend, team Grimmfest have a cracking line up for you including Oliver Frampton’s THE FORGOTTEN, Gerald Johnson’s Kiwi Horror Comedy HOUSEBOUND, James Ward Byrkit’s Mind bender COHERENCE, the hysterical vampire comedy from The Flight of The Conchords team WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, Kevin Kolsch & Dennis Widmyer’s STARRY EYES, American Pie meets Cabin Fever in ZOMBEAVERS, Jeff Baena’s fantastic RomZomCom LIFE AFTER BETH, Till Kleinert’s German masterpiece THE SAMURAI, a film that needs no introduction WOLFCOP and closing the festival will be Ivan Kavanagh’s superb, chilling thriller THE CANAL.

This year will also see the return of Grimmfest Fringe screenings and returns with two distinctive themes, bringing some of the best in extreme and independent horror from around the world. Thursday will be WOMEN IN HORROR SHOWCASE featuring films from some of the best women in horror that knows what it takes to reduce grown men to tears featuring THE HOUSE AT THE END OF TIME, Jessica Cameron‘s brutally extreme TRUTH OR DARE, JULIA, THE WELL and Chelsey Burdon’s notoriously shocking short film SHE. The second strand is titled HEAD F*CK CINEMA SHOWCASE and will feature Joseph O’Brien’s feature debut DEVILS MILE, L.F.O, THE RECONSTRUCTION OF WILLIAM ZERO, OPEN GRAVE and Australia’s very first Giallo film from Writer Director Sam Barrett SORORAL.

Just like last year, Grimmfest will also be showing a specially curated collection of shorts that will feature during the festival and fringe events. This includes SOLITUDO, the new short from Alice Lowe (Sightseers, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace), GET SOME from Adam & Joe Horton starring John Hannah (The Mummy) & Warren Brown (Luther) plus Demonic possession tale THE VISITANT starring Amy Smart (The Butterfly Effect), Andy Stewart’s disgustingly superb SPLIT, Lovecraft influenced thriller VOMICA, Spanish pitch black gothic comedy DON’T PLAY WITH THE FOOD, Cronenbergian body horror meets crime thriller THE STOMACH, Matt Barker’s ALL I KNOW IS NOTHING, and the stunning moody portrait of a serial killer from Fredrik Hana (Angst, P*ss & DridAUTUMN HARVEST.
