Netflix has released the official trailer for The Whisper Man, offering the first extended look at its adaptation of Alex North‘s bestselling psychological thriller. Set to premiere on August 28, 2026, the film appears to faithfully capture the tense, unsettling atmosphere that made the novel an international success.
The story centres on a widowed crime novelist whose life is thrown into turmoil when his eight-year-old son disappears without explanation. Desperate to bring him home, he reluctantly reunites with his estranged father, a retired detective, to investigate the case. As the search unfolds, the pair uncover connections to a decades-old investigation and the enduring shadow of an infamous serial killer known only as “The Whisper Man.”
Directing the adaptation is James Ashcroft, whose previous credits include The Rule of Jenny Pen and Coming Home in the Dark. The screenplay has been written by Ben Jacoby (The First Omen) and Chase Palmer (It), with production led by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Kassee Whiting.
The ensemble cast features Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan, Adam Scott, Hamish Linklater, Owen Teague, Acston Luca Porto and Will Brill.
Discussing the project, executive producer Angela Russo-Otstot highlighted the film’s emotional core alongside its suspenseful premise.
“AGBO is excited to be embarking on our sixth film with our incredible partners at Netflix. The Whisper Man is a gripping thriller, but at its core [it] is a poignant and complex story of father and sons. We are grateful to have one of the finest actors of his generation, Robert De Niro, anchoring that story and with the remarkable James Ashcroft directing.”
The Whisper Man also represents the sixth feature film collaboration between AGBO and Netflix, extending the Russo brothers’ long-running creative partnership with the streaming platform.
