Aura Entertainment is preparing to release The Beast, the upcoming claustrophobic action thriller from director Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2), starring Samuel L. Jackson, Joel Kinnaman, Colin Morgan and Guy Burnet.
Written by Umair Aleem (The Beekeeper 2, Nobody 2), the film follows the President of the United States after a militia of unidentified hostiles launches a coup against the US. Forced to take control of the presidential limousine, the President must unlock the full extent of the vehicle’s highly classified offensive capabilities as he attempts to save his injured Secret Service agent, reunite with his wife and prevent a wider catastrophe.
Ahead of the film’s exclusive theatrical release this Friday, October 9, CinemaChords sat down with Harlin to discuss the appeal of placing his central character inside a vehicle designed to offer maximum protection, while simultaneously turning that protection into a potential trap. We also discussed his approach to contrasting the large-scale action unfolding outside the vehicle with the confined perspective of those inside it, allowing the audience to experience the chaos through the limousine’s armoured glass.
