PROJECT HAIL MARY Trailer: Ryan Gosling Stars in Sci-Fi Epic Full of Cosmic Wonder and Unexpected Heart

Prepare for lift-off: Amazon MGM Studios has officially unveiled the first trailer for Project Hail Mary, the hotly anticipated cinematic adaptation of Andy Weir’s acclaimed sci-fi novel. Scheduled to hit theaters on March 20, 2026, the film promises an intense blend of cosmic wonder, heartfelt character work, and edge-of-your-seat suspense.

Leading the interstellar drama is Ryan Gosling (Barbie, Drive), portraying Ryland Grace — a former science teacher who wakes up alone on a spacecraft with no memory of his mission or identity. As his memories slowly return, Grace discovers that he may be Earth’s last hope to stop a catastrophic solar crisis. The film is based on Weir’s 2022 Hugo Award-nominated novel, beloved for its clever fusion of realistic science and gripping narrative.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative duo behind The LEGO Movie and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, direct this high-stakes odyssey, marking a tonal shift into more serious territory while retaining their signature knack for smart, imaginative storytelling. The screenplay comes from Drew Goddard, writer of The Martian, who is no stranger to bringing scientifically driven stories to the screen.

The story follows Grace’s journey from bewildered survivor to reluctant hero as he races against time — and across galaxies — to understand a dying sun and find a solution to avert global annihilation. His only tools: science, resilience, and an unlikely interstellar companion who may hold the key to saving humanity.

Joining Gosling in the ensemble cast are Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Lionel Boyce (“The Bear”), Ken Leung (“Lost”), and Milana Vayntrub, known for her comedic chops and growing list of dramatic roles.

The film is produced by Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Aditya Sood, Rachel O’Connor, Andy Weir, and Gosling himself. Executive producers include Patricia Whitcher, Drew Goddard, Sarah Esberg, Lucy Kitada, Nikki Baida, and Ken Kao.
