Round the Decay, a creature-filled folk-horror film, prepares to hit theaters on January 31. The official trailer has just dropped, offering a closer look at the practical effects-heavy thrills that await.
The tagline “Only monsters can kill monsters” sets the tone for this chilling film, which promises to deliver a monstrous showdown like no other. Written and directed by Adam Newman (Everwinter Night), Round the Decay centers around a young woman who returns to her hometown, only to find that the town is haunted by something far more dangerous than it appears. What she uncovers, however, is a terrifying revelation that forces the residents to rely on monstrous forces to survive.
At the heart of the film is the monster itself, brought to life through practical effects designed by veteran special effects artist Greg McDougall (Doctor Sleep, “Stranger Things”, “The Walking Dead”, War of the Worlds). Drawing inspiration from the gritty, practical creature features of the past, echoing the likes of Stan Winston’s Pumpkinhead and Neil Marshall’s The Descent, Round the Decay stands out in today’s digital-heavy landscape by relying on old-school, hands-on monster effects, delivering a visceral experience that horror fans are sure to appreciate.

Commenting on the theatrical release of the film, helmer Newman reflects, “I spent a lot of time as a kid daydreaming about having my stories projected on the biggest screens. I think we’ve created something that is a lot of fun and has a lot of heart. I can’t wait for people to get to see it at a theater..”
Victoria Mirrer (Everwinter Night) leads the cast in this intense film, joined by a talented ensemble that includes Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night, Wrong Turn [2021]), Sienna Hubert-Ross (Terrifier 3, She Came From the Woods), Melody Kay (The NeverEnding Story III), Phil Duran (“Breaking Bad”), Sarah Nicklin (The Black Mass, The Retaliators), Rachel Pizzolato (“Mythbusters Jr.”), and Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption II, Back 4 Blood).
Dreamscape Productions is also offering an innovative way for fans to see the film, partnering with Atom Tickets to sell exclusive ticket voucher codes ahead of its January 31 theatrical release date.
