Cineverse (Nasdaq: CNVS) has announced the release rollout for Pig Hill, the latest shocker from Kevin Lewis (Willy’s Wonderland) in which local history, rumor, and fear intersect. The film draws on a long-circulated Meadville, Pennsylvania urban legend tied to the disappearance of local women.
With a staggered multi-platform release, Pig Hill will bring this regional legend to a wider audience when it premieres on Digital and Video on Demand on December 9, 2025, followed by a physical release on January 13, 2026. The film will then begin streaming on SCREAMBOX on March 10, 2026.
Adapted by Jarrod Burris from Nancy William’s novel “Pig: A Supernatural Thriller”, the film follows Carrie, a young author drawn into the unsettling folklore surrounding the “pig people” said to inhabit the wooded slope known as Pig Hill. As a tenth woman from the area goes missing, Carrie’s interest deepens into an investigation that blurs the line between local myth and more troubling possibilities.
Director Kevin Lewis notes that the project resonated with him because of its foundation in real-world fears and local storytelling. “Some of the best horror comes from ideas that are connected to the real world,” he says. “When I read Jarrod Burris’ screenplay adapted from the Nancy William’s novel Pig, and learned about the Pig People of Meadville, Pennsylvania, I knew it would make for a frightening, bone-chilling film. It is a poignant story of obsession, love, and the terrible consequences of what happens when reality and fantasy blur.”
The cast includes Shane West (A Walk to Remember, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), Rainey Qualley (Ocean’s Eight, “Mad Men”), Shiloh Fernandez (Evil Dead, Red Riding Hood), and R.A. Mihailoff (Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Hatchet II).
The film’s source material has been noted for its psychological depth, with early reviewers calling it “a poignant exploration of how the mind builds walls and channels to survive trauma” and “a masterclass in plot twists and narrative complexity.” Following its World Premiere at this year’s FrightFest in August, the film itself drew attention from genre critics. The Independent Horror Society described it as “completely unique… something totally different to any small-town myth I’ve heard before,” while Warped Perspective highlighted its “ambitious” blend of genre and tone, calling it “a mix of the sweet and the sadistic, the puzzling and the perverse.” With that calibre of pedigree, Pig Hill is a must-see when it releases, starting next month.
