‘IT FEEDS’ Movie Review – Terrifying Horror and a Compelling, Sinister Investigation Collide

When a terrified young girl bursts into a psychiatrist’s office, claiming that something is feeding on her, the stage is set for a spine-chilling horror experience. It Feeds, written and directed by Chad Archibald (Bite, I’ll Take Your Dead), takes audiences on a haunting journey, filled with eerie atmospheres, relentless suspense, and a truly terrifying antagonist.

At the heart of the story is Jordan (Ellie O’Brien), who feels compelled to help the girl, despite the reservations of her clairvoyant mother, Cynthia (Ashley Greene). Still mourning the loss of her husband, Cynthia initially refuses to get involved, sensing the peril and darkness surrounding the girl. However, Jordan’s persistence propels them both into a harrowing ordeal, leading them to the girl’s father (Shawn Ashmore) and setting off a frantic race against time.

The film draws inspiration from James Wan’s Insidious and evokes the nightmare-inducing terror of Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. Yet, It Feeds establishes its own unique identity, thanks to strong performances and exceptional tension-building. Greene and O’Brien deliver compelling portrayals, making the mother-daughter dynamic feel authentic and emotionally resonant.

The true horror of It Feeds lies in its nightmarish creature. With its deep-set, gleaming eyes, emaciated, slimy body, and elongated, clawed fingers, this entity is the stuff of pure terror. Horror fans will be entranced by its grotesque design, while more faint-hearted viewers may want to keep the lights on. Archibald’s knack for creating dread is impressive, ensuring that even the quietest moments are imbued with palpable tension.

Beyond the scares, It Feeds benefits from well-paced storytelling and effective jump scares that, while familiar, remain impactful. The film also offers much-needed comic relief through Agatha (Juno Rinaldi), whose quirky character and striking 80s-inspired Cher-like curls provide brief but welcome respites from the mounting tension.

Ultimately, It Feeds is a well-crafted horror film that excels in both suspense and supernatural thrills. While it may draw from familiar influences, it stands strong on its own merits with chilling visuals and standout performances. Horror enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy, while casual viewers may want to brace themselves—and perhaps keep a spare pair of pants handy. A must-watch for those who enjoy a gripping supernatural scare.

VERDICT:

It Feeds is in theaters and on digital April 18.
