The official teaser has been released for Normal, the upcoming neo-Western directed by Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, Free Fire), ahead of its world premiere at this year’s South by Southwest. The film will debut at SXSW on March 15, with an additional screening set for March 18, before opening in theaters nationwide on April 17, 2026.
The project marks the latest collaboration between Bob Odenkirk, Derek Kolstad, and producer Marc Provissiero, following their work on the action thriller Nobody. Kolstad conceived the script for Normal prior to Nobody, with the screenplay later developed alongside Odenkirk after their previous collaboration.
Wheatley directs from a script by Kolstad. Odenkirk stars as Sheriff Ulysses, an unassuming substitute lawman who relocates to the small Midwestern town of Normal seeking relief from marital strain and lingering moral injuries sustained in the line of duty. When a botched bank robbery disrupts the town’s routine, Ulysses uncovers a secret that suggests the community is not what it appears to be.
The ensemble cast includes Lena Headey, Henry Winkler, Ryan Allen, Billy MacLellan, Brendan Fletcher, Reena Jolly, Peter Shinkoda, Jess McLeod, and Derek Barnes.
Normal is produced by Provissiero, Odenkirk and Kolstad. The film is among our 10 most-anticipated titles of the festival; a full list can be found in our separate feature via the button below:
