The Molotovs have dropped a new single, ‘Get A Life,’ as the London punk siblings gear up for the January 30 release of their debut album Wasted On Youth.
Clocking in at under two minutes of unrelenting energy, Matt and Issey Cartlidge’s LP-opener is a raw-edged punk riot.
“‘Get A Life’ is one of those tracks where as soon as the opening riffs come in, the whole room goes mad,” says Matt. “It’s a punk song. We love Buzzcocks, Libertines, The Horrors, The Jam, The Pistols – we love The Undertones. It’s a pretty angry song, pretty pointed, and I can’t possibly tell you who it’s directed at!”
The single follows ‘More More More,’ ‘Today’s Gonna Be Our Day,’ and ‘Rhythm Of Yourself,’ all of which charted in the UK, with the latter also appearing in CinemaChords’ Top Singles of the Year list.
That momentum has been earned the hard way. While still in their teens, the duo have already logged in excess of 600 gigs, cutting their teeth in small rooms across London before taking their live set overseas. Recent appearances have included shared bills with Blondie, The Libertines, and Sex Pistols feat. Frank Carter, alongside US support slots with Iggy Pop and The Damned.
The Molotovs also played a special benefit show at Bush Hall in west London late last year, raising funds for the Music Venue Trust following the venue’s successful campaign to remain open.
“Bush Hall is very important to us,” says Issey. “We were proud to play a show in 2024 – with a surprise appearance from Sex Pistol Paul Cook – that capped off the campaign to save it. But so many other vital venues are struggling to stay afloat. The UK has a long history of producing some of the greatest rock acts in the world, but without the right places to play, those artists will struggle to grow and break through.”
In January, The Molotovs will take that energy back on the road for the “Wasted On Youth” UK tour (see live dates below), bringing their live set to venues across the country.
