Stay-at-Home Dads Go Full Rambo in First Trailer for ‘Playdate’ Starring Kevin James and Alan Ritchson

Prime Video has today debuted the first official trailer for Playdate, the upcoming action-comedy that blends suburban satire with high-octane action, as a children’s playdate unexpectedly escalates into a full-blown shootout.

Directed by Luke Greenfield (The Girl Next Door, The Animal) and written by Neil Goldman (“Shrinking”), the film stars Kevin James and Alan Ritchson as two fathers whose seemingly ordinary day at the park veers violently off course — trading juice boxes for gunfire in a matter of moments.

Playdate follows recently laid-off accountant Brian (James), who agrees to a casual get-together with Jeff (Ritchson), a magnetic stay-at-home dad, and their young sons. What begins as an ordinary suburban afternoon descends into chaos when the pair are targeted by a ruthless band of mercenaries. Brian’s complete lack of tactical nous proves an awkward counterpoint to Jeff’s suspiciously well-honed survival skills, delivering a blend of family comedy and frenetic action.

The ensemble cast includes Sarah Chalke, Alan Tudyk, Stephen Root, Isla Fisher, Hiro Kanagawa, Benjamin Pajak and Banks Pierce. Greenfield also produces, alongside Jason Benoit, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, Mark Fasano and Jeffrey Greenstein. Executive producers include Ritchson, Goldman, Dan Spilo, Michelle Meyers, Alexis Garcia, Matthew Goldberg, Lee Broda and Jamal Sannon.

Playdate lands on Prime Video worldwide on 12 November 2025. In the meantime, the newly released trailer offers a first look at how an ordinary afternoon of packed lunches and playground small talk unravels into bullet-strewn, dad-joke-laced chaos.
