Exclusive Interview: Paul Tremblay on ‘First Word on Horror,’ ‘Another’ Novel & ‘Head Full of Ghosts’ Movie

Horror fans, get excited! The much-anticipated documentary series “First Word on Horror” premiered last February 7, 2025, on Substack. This captivating 15-part series takes you behind the scenes with five of horror’s most celebrated contemporary authors: Stephen Graham JonesPaul TremblayElizabeth HandLaird Barron, and Mariana Enriquez. Each episode delves into their creative processes, with the authors reading one of their short stories and sharing personal insights into their inspirations and philosophies. It’s a must-watch for any horror fan eager to know what fuels these masters of fear.

Starting tomorrow, February 21, the episodes featuring Tremblay’s episodes will debut, and we had the incredible opportunity to sit down with him to talk about his journey in the world of horror.

Tremblay shared how balancing his role as a high school teacher with his writing is, in most ways, a blessing—both jobs offer a necessary distraction from the other, helping him stay focused and inspired. He also discussed his obsession with the malleability of human memory—how our recollections, and even others’ opinions, can shift over time. Plus, he gave us an exciting preview of his upcoming Middle Grade Horror novel Another and shared details about the highly anticipated Head Full of Ghosts film adaptation from Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala (The Lodge, Goodnight Mommy).
