Phil Allocco Talks the Complex Relationships and Moral Dilemmas in Intense Thriller ‘5 LBS OF PRESSURE’

Feature film and commercial writer/director Phil Allocco‘s (The Truth About Lies) rollercoaster ride of redemption and retribution, 5 Lbs of Pressure is all set to release this Friday on digital and on demand on March 8 in the US and Canada (streaming in the UK on Prime Video 24 April via Signature Entertainment).

Starring Luke Evans as an ex-con seeking redemption after 16 years in prison for murder, the film follows his rocky path to forgiveness with the son he left behind. When their lives collide with a young man (Rory Culkin) desperate to escape his uncle’s (Alex Pettyfer) criminal empire, the inescapable violence of their world comes crashing down for one final shot at salvation. With a talented ensemble cast including Zac Adams, Rudy Pankow, and Stephanie Leonidas, Allocco’s rollercoaster narrative guarantees high stakes and emotional payoff.

Allocco’s work has received over 60 awards and nominations and he was one of the directors chosen by Steven Spielberg from a worldwide search of over 12,000 directors for his US TV series “On the Lot” for FOX TV. His feature film The Truth About Lies opened theatrically in 2017, taking home 14 festival awards, including ‘The Best Of Fest’ at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

In anticipation of the film’s release, CinemaChords’ Howard Gorman sat down with Allocco to delve into the film’s hard-hitting themes of family, betrayal, and redemption. Their insightful conversation sheds light on the complex relationships and moral dilemmas at the heart of this gritty drama.
