Villanelle, fronted by Liam Gallagher’s son Gene on vocals and guitar, are currently making a big splash as the opening act on Liam’s “Definitely Maybe: 30 Years” tour. Receiving enthusiastic receptions at each show, Villanelle are poised to step out on their own with the announcement of their debut UK headline tour as the run with Liam Gallagher nears its end.
Although Gene Gallagher has been writing songs for years, he only recently formed Villanelle earlier this year with Ben Taylor on guitar, Jack Schiavo on bass, and Andrew Richmond on drums. Villanelle went on to make an instant impact, particularly after their early performances at London’s rock ‘n’ roll pub The Marquis and these impressive performances were enough to earn them the opening slot on Liam Gallagher’s current tour.
Villanelle seized the high-pressure opportunity to open for a legendary musical icon – celebrating one of the most influential albums of all time in front of huge crowds, on a bill completed by another indie legend in the shape of Cast or The View. As Maximum Volume’s review of the Sheffield show enthused, “Gene has a neat line in cool insouciance, an even better line in lead guitar and some very decent songs. The surname might have got Villanelle on this bill, but it’s their talent that will keep them appearing on others.”
Villanelle’s guest appearances supporting artists such as Seb Lowe, Overpass, and Pastel have already generated plenty of buzz too.
While the band are yet to release any music, more news is expected to follow on that front soon. In the meantime, tickets for the tour, which includes a Manchester homecoming show at Night & Day as well as a London gig at Oslo, will go on sale here from 9am this Friday, June 21st. You can also follow the band on their official website and Instagram.
