UK Trailer Revealed for ‘BLUE BAYOU’, Justin Chon’s Poignant Exploration of the Immigration System

Dazzler Media has confirmed the official Blu-ray and DVD release date for screenwriter, director, and actor Justin Chon‘s (Gook, Twilight) poignant and timely melodrama Blue Bayou which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last year.

Helmed by, written by, and starring Chon, alongside Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander (The Green Knight, Ex Machina), Blue Bayou draws inspiration from true stories Chon heard from Korean adoptee friends, as well as research that revealed a broader crisis for Asian American adoptees of a certain age. He worked on the movie for a total of four years, consulting with five adoptees who read drafts of the script and were consulted throughout the entire writing process. Once he had an edit, he screened it for some adoptees and then received notes from them and changed the edit through the post-production of the film to make sure that they all felt comfortable with the film he had created.

Blue Bayou centers on Antonio LeBlanc (Chon), a Korean-American adoptee and tattoo artist living outside New Orleans with his pregnant wife Kathy, a rehabilitation nurse, and her daughter Jessie. Struggling to make a better life for his family, he must confront the ghosts of his past when he discovers that he could be deported from the only country he has ever called home.

The cast is rounded out with Mark O’Brien (Ready or Not, Arrival), Linh Dan Pham (Mr. Nobody), Syndey Kowalske (“Doom Patrol”), Vondie Curtis-Hall (Falling Down, The Night House, 18 1/2) and Emory Cohen (The Place Beyond the Pines, Brooklyn).

Dazzler Media will release Blue Bayou on Blu-ray and DVD from June 27, and in the meantime, we’ll leave you with the official UK trailer:
