UK and Ireland Theatrical Release Date Confirmed for Ira Sach’s darkly funny take on messy modern love, ‘PASSAGES’

MUBI, the global film distributor, streaming service and production company, has today announced the UK and Ireland theatrical release of Ira Sachs’ (Love is Strange, Little Men) critically acclaimed, complex take on passion and desire, Passages.

Directed by Sachs, produced by Saïd Ben Saïd (Elle, Bacarau) and Michel Merkt (Toni Erdmann), and starring Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Paddington, Women Talking), Franz Rogowski (Great Freedom, Transit, Victoria) and Palme d’Or winner Adèle Exarchopoulos (Blue is the Warmest Colour, The Five Devils), Passagers centres on filmmaker Tomas (Rogowski) who, after wrapping his latest project, impulsively embarks on a whirlwind love affair with a young teacher, Agathe (Exarchopoulos). For Tomas, the novelty of being with a woman is an exciting experience that he is eager to explore, despite his marriage to Martin (Whishaw). But when Martin begins an affair of his own, the mercurial Tomas turns his attention back to his husband.
Set in contemporary Paris, Passages charts an escalating battle of desire between three people, where longing is constant and happiness is just out of reach. Exquisitely shot and featuring honest, emotionally nuanced performances, Sachs has created a breathtakingly intimate and insightful drama that explores the complexities, contradictions and cruelties of love and desire.

Passages had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for Best Feature Film at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival.

The film will release in the UK & Ireland this 1st September, 2023 and, in the meantime, we’ll leave you with a brand new clip from the film below.
