True-Crime Inspired Nordic Noir Thriller ‘WHAT REMAINS’ to Premiere Exclusively on Icon Film Channel

Kaleidoscope Entertainment has released the official UK trailer for Ran Huang’s chilling Nordic noir crime-thriller What Remains starring Golden Globe® Winner Stellan Skarsgård (“Chernobyl,” Dune), Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie, Birdman, Oblivion), and Gustaf Skarsgård (“Vikings,” “Westworld,” Oppenheimer).

Directed by Huang, from a script he co-wrote with Megan Everett-Skarsgard, inspired by the incredible story of Scandinavia’s most infamous serial killer, What Remains chronicles how Mads Lake, a long-term inmate at a mental clinic in Scandinavia, confesses to a series of brutal murders on the eve of his release. Subsequently, his therapist, a police officer, and the inmate himself set out to reconstruct the details of the case and comprehend the murky reality that emerges. Each of these characters hope to find a concealed truth: troubled criminal Mads looks to understand his past, his trusted confidante Anna seeks validation of her psychoanalytic theories, whilst investigator Soren sees both as his key to solving a number of cold cases.

As the uneasy triumvate struggle to discern fact from fiction, all are dragged deeper into a deadly game of psychological dependency that threatens to destroy them all.

The film screened at Locarno Film Festival, Warsaw International Film Festival, Beijing International Film Festival and Fantasy FilmFest and is now set to premieres exclusively on the Icon Film Channel from 3 June. It will also release in select UK cinemas on 5 July.
