Ti West Updates Details on ‘In A Valley of Violence’ – Shooting Starts Thursday.

Today Ti West put in an appearance alongside Kate Lyn Sheil at the Fant Festival in Bilbao to present the director’s latest film, The Sacrament. Speaking with me after the press conference, West openly provided a brief update on his upcoming spaghetti western, In A Valley of Violence which will star Ethan Hawke and John Travolta.

Shooting starts this very Thursday, 15 May with West briefly describing the film as follows:

“It’s about Ethan Hawke who is travelling down to Mexico and he stops in this town and they don’t like him too much in this town and he gets into this big rivalry with the people in the town there. Travolta is the Marshall there. It’s a revenge movie but I don’t want to give away too much.”

Asking him about the jump to working with A-listers he commented:

“It wasn’t really a conscious decision. I’ve been a fan of Ethan Hawke for a long time and I was going to write this western and I heard that he wanted to do a western. He was doing Macbeth at the time in New York so I went to New York and saw the play and met with him and I told him about the movie and he was really into it. So it was just one of those things. I was like ‘Maybe it’ll work. Maybe it won’t.’ And then he really liked the script so it was like ‘let’s go make this movie together.’ In terms of the cast ‘I had Ethan in mind because we had talked about it but that was as far as I had got. Then, John Travolta got hold of the script and called us saying he really liked it and so that happened and it just kept going from there.”

I went on to ask him if he felt nervous about making the jump to working with Ethan Hawke and John Travolta and the truth is he seemed completely unphased by the whole idea:

“Not yet no. I mean Ethan is the most right easy-going guy and John’s been really pleasant so I’ll have to answer this question after I shoot it. It’s a weird thing where since I’m writing the script and directing it they are essentially being in my movie and we don’t really have that much more money or much more time so it’s like my last films again but with more famous people. I couldn’t have made it without them but they wanted to do it and I like both those actors so it’s cool.”

According to Ti In A Valley of Violence is set for a 2015 release and we hope to be able to bring you a solid release date and more cast very shortly. In the meantime we’ll leave you with a trailer for his latest film, The Sacrament which we can’t recommend enough.
