The Slow Readers Club Unveil ‘Boy So Blue’ – A Dance of Light and Darkness in New Single

Manchester’s indie-electronic quartet, The Slow Readers Club, have made an electrifying return with their new single, ‘Boy So Blue,’ ahead of the release of their highly anticipated seventh studio album, Out Of A Dream, due on March 14, 2025.

A burst of shimmering electro-pop combined with lyrical sorrow, ‘Boy So Blue’ is a track that pulses with life, drawing from the band’s love of early Depeche Mode, Erasure, New Order, and LCD Soundsystem. The song dances on a fine line between euphoria and melancholy, capturing the duality of its subject: a man caught in the self-destructive cycle of hedonistic distractions.

Lead singer Aaron Starkie explains, “Although it’s a big, joyous dance track, it’s about hiding deep emotional pain and trauma, how hedonistic coping mechanisms like drugs, alcohol, and womanizing are just temporary distractions. They ultimately fuel a self-destructive cycle. There’s a deliberate contrast between the euphoria of the music and the melancholy of the lyrics, capturing the subject’s duality of light and darkness.”

This latest release follows the emotionally charged drama of previous singles ‘Technofear’ and ‘Animals’, with ‘Boy So Blue’ continuing the band’s exploration of complex emotional landscapes through their signature blend of indie and electronic influences.

In addition to this electrifying single, Out Of A Dream marks a pivotal moment in The Slow Readers Club’s journey. Describing the album as “a collection of abstract visions that question reality, celebrate love, and long for connection,” the band continues to evolve both musically and lyrically. The new album is the follow-up to 2023’s Knowledge Freedom Power, which propelled the band into the Top 40 Official UK Albums Chart for the fourth time.

As the band gears up for its March release, a series of intimate album launch shows are set to kick off on March 1, 2025, at The Met in Bury. With a total of five dates scheduled for the UK, the band is taking their newest material to cities such as Liverpool, Leeds, London, and Nottingham. Tickets are expected to sell out quickly for these special performances.

Meanwhile, a major live announcement has already arrived for the summer, with The Slow Readers Club set to share the stage with Elbow at Manchester’s iconic Castlefield Arena on July 2, 2025. Known for their dynamic live performances, the band’s fans can expect a truly special homecoming, as they join one of the UK’s most respected alternative acts in front of thousands of excited concertgoers.

With an unmistakable blend of intricate studio work and visceral live energy, The Slow Readers Club continue to capture the hearts of audiences with their emotive storytelling and bold sonic landscapes. Out Of A Dream promises to further cement their reputation as one of Manchester’s most innovative and adventurous bands.
