First Clip for Karim Aïnouz’s ‘Rosebush Pruning’ Debuts Ahead of Berlin Premiere

Karim Aïnouz’s Rosebush Pruning is set for its world premiere in competition at this month’s Berlin Film Festival. The first clip provides a glimpse at the film’s satirical take on the traditional patriarchal family.

Directed by Aïnouz from a script by Efthimis Filippou (who previously collaborated with Yorgos Lanthimos on The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and Kinds of Kindness) the film stars Jamie Bell, Callum Turner, Riley Keough, Lukas Gage, Elle Fanning, Tracy Letts, Elena Anaya, and Pamela Anderson.

Set in a lavish Catalonian villa, Rosebush Pruning follows American siblings Jack, Ed, Anna, and Robert, who live in isolation, indulging in their inherited fortune and designer fashions while sidestepping the expectations of their blind father. When Jack announces he will move in with his girlfriend, family bonds begin to fracture. Ed’s investigation into their mother’s death gradually exposes long-held generational secrets, unraveling the fabric of the family unit.

The film is a joint production between Mubi, The Match Factory, and Fremantle’s The Apartment, alongside Sur Film, Crybaby, and Gold Rush Pictures. Adapted from Marco Bellocchio’s 1965 drama Fists in the Pocket, it is produced by Viola Fügen and Michael Weber for The Match Factory, which is also handling worldwide sales.
