Revenge Never Looked So Bloody Good in Neil Marshall’s Fresh Take on Brit Action Crime Genre, ‘DUCHESS’

Vertigo Releasing have today unleashed the official trailer for Neil Marshall‘s (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) fresh take on a genre we all love, the action-thriller Duchess.

Directed by Marshall and co-written with the film’s star, Charlotte Kirk (The Lair, The Reckoning), the film follows Duchess, a small-time crook, as she ventures into the treacherous diamond trafficking underworld. When a deal goes wrong, Duchess is left for dead, but determined to seek retribution, she launches an unwavering pursuit for vengeance.

Starring alongside Kirk are Philip Winchester (“24: Live Another Day”, “Strike Back), Colm Meaney (Con Air, “Gangs of London”), Hoji Fortuna (“That Dirty Black Bag”), Colin Egglesfield (“The Client List”, “Rizzoli & Isles”), Stephanie Beacham (“Dynasty”, “Bad Girls”) and Sean Pertwee (Dog Soldiers, I.D., Wilderness).

In discussing the upcoming release, Marshall explained, “With Duchess I wanted to create a British action crime thriller with international appeal. While its themes of love lost and raving taken are universal, I decided early on in the development of the script that rather than go down the traditional route of East End gangsters and cockney swagger, I wanted to broaden its scope, not just in terms of its visual texture and style, but also its central story. I changed up drug deals for the more mysterious and somewhat enticing world of international diamond smuggling … And instead of the rainy back streets of London, I wanted to give this film a sun-baked and vibrant look. And of course, the movie is packed full of exciting and intense action sequences in the great tradition of films like Heat, The Untouchables and Scarface.”

Duchess will be released in select UK cinemas and on digital download from 12th August, 2024.
