Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film, in association with TriStar Pictures, have released a brand-new trailer for Resident Evil, the upcoming reboot of the long-running horror franchise from filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian).
Based on Capcom’s best-selling video game series, the film marks the second reboot and eighth instalment in the Resident Evil film franchise. The newly released trailer offers an extended look at the story, introducing Austin Abrams (Weapons) as Bryan, a medical courier whose routine assignment spirals into a night of escalating terror after a series of events plunges the city into chaos.
Directed by Cregger from a screenplay he co-wrote with Shay Hatten (Day Shift, Army of the Dead), the film stars Abrams alongside Zach Cherry (Severance, Fallout), Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country, Mercy), and Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird, The Naked Gun).
Cregger has previously said the reboot draws inspiration directly from the Resident Evil video games rather than earlier film adaptations, citing Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and Resident Evil 4 as key influences on the project.
The film is produced by Robert Kulzer, Zach Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Carter Swan, and Asad Qizilbash. Executive producers are Oliver Berben, Victor Hadida, Richard Wright, and Robert Bernacci.
Resident Evil is scheduled to open exclusively in theatres on September 18, 2026.
