‘Resident Evil’ Trailer: Zach Cregger Reboots Franchise With Story Drawn From ‘Resident Evil’ Game Sequels

Resident Evil 2026 trailer

Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film, in association with TriStar Pictures, have released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil reboot, from filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian).

Based on the video game series by Capcom, the film marks the second reboot and eighth instalment in the Resident Evil film franchise. In September 2025, Cregger said he had not seen any of the previous film adaptations and implied that the new entry would draw more directly from the video games, particularly Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and Resident Evil 4.

Directed by Cregger from a screenplay co-written with Shay Hatten (Day Shift, Army of the Dead), the story follows Bryan (Austin AbramsWeapons), a medical courier who becomes caught in a rapidly escalating night of chaos and survival after an unexpected series of events overtakes the city.

The cast also includes Zach Cherry (“Severance”, “Fallout”), Kali Reis (“True Detective”, Mercy), and Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird”, The Naked Gun).

The film is produced by Robert Kulzer, Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Carter Swan, and Asad Qizilbash, with executive producers Oliver Berben, Victor Hadida, Richard Wright, and Robert Bernacci.

Resident Evil is set to hit theatres on September 18, 2026.
