MUBI, the global distributor, streaming service, and production company, has announced that The End, the highly anticipated apocalyptic musical from Academy Award®-nominated director Joshua Oppenheimer (The Act of Killing, The Look of Silence), will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 28 March 2025.
The film had its world premiere at the 2024 Telluride Film Festival and is already generating buzz for its daring narrative and star-studded cast. Co-written and directed by Oppenheimer, The End brings a bold new vision to the screen—combining a unique genre blend with the intensity of a post-apocalyptic world:
Set 25 years after environmental collapse has rendered Earth uninhabitable, The End follows the lives of Mother, Father, and Son, a family confined to their luxurious bunker. In this isolated haven, they cling to the rituals of daily life, hoping to preserve a semblance of normalcy. But their fragile peace is shattered with the arrival of Girl, a mysterious stranger who upends their routine. Son, a naive twenty-something who has never known the outside world, is captivated by her presence, and soon, the delicate optimism that has kept this wealthy family together begins to unravel. As tensions mount and repressed emotions come to the surface, the family faces a reckoning that could either destroy them or lead them to a new path—one rooted in acceptance, love, and change.

Starring Academy Award®-winner Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton, Suspiria) and BAFTA-nominated George MacKay (1917, Captain Fantastic), the film also features Emmy-nominated Moses Ingram (“Obi-Wan Kenobi”, “The Queen’s Gambit”), Academy Award®-nominated Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water, A Different Man), BAFTA-winner Lennie James (“Save Me”, “Fear The Walking Dead”), Tim McInnerny (Gladiator II, One Day), and Bronagh Gallagher (Sherlock Holmes, “Brassic”).
Don’t miss the chance to witness a family’s reckoning with acceptance, love and change when The End hits cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 28 March 2025.
