After over a decade of anticipation and speculation, the highly-anticipated Minecraft film adaptation has finally come to fruition. In early 2014, Warner Bros. Pictures first announced plans to bring the massively popular video game to the big screen, igniting excitement among the game’s legions of devoted fans worldwide. Now, 10 years later, Warner Bros. Pictures has has unveiled the very first official teaser and poster for the upcoming adventure film, A Minecraft Movie. Directed by Oscar nominated filmmaker Jared Hess‘ (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), known for his quirky cult classics such as Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, the movie looks set to offer a unique, offbeat take on the Minecraft universe first created by Mojang Studios when the best-selling video game of all time first released in 2011.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, with a script penned by Chris Bowman, Rob McElhenney, Hubbel Palmer, Allison Schroeder, Peter Sollett, and Jon Spaihts, and starring Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Dune) and Jack Black (Kung-Fu Panda, School of Rock), the film will welcome audiences to experience the distinct aesthetic of the world of Minecraft, where creativity is not just a means of self-expression, but a vital survival skill!
A Minecraft Movie whisks us away on the journey of four misfits – Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen – “Lisey’s Story”), Natalie (Emma Myers – “Wednesday”, Family Switch) and Dawn (Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks – The Color Purple, “Peacemaker”) who find their mundane lives suddenly upended when they are unexpectedly transported through a mysterious portal into the Overworld – a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on the power of imagination.

In order to find their way back home, they’ll need to not only master the unique rules and dynamics of this imaginative world, but also protect it from the threat of evil things like Piglins and Zombies who seek to disrupt the delicate balance. Joining them on their quest is an unexpected ally – Steve, an expert crafter with a wealth of knowledge about the Overworld. Together, they’ll face challenges that will test their courage and help them rediscover the qualities that make them creative in their own unique ways. These being the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
