Just as the mighty Godzilla left a hefty footprint in cinemas last week, it has now been revealed that Legendary and Warner Bros. are already devising a monster follow-up.
In light of the $103m the film grossed internationally and the general praise received from critics and audiences alike, news of a potential sequel comes as no real surprise. Whilst nothing has been confirmed as to whether or not Gareth Edwards will return to direct, he has openly suggested that a sequel would follow the tone he set in the first film. His choice of refraining from going overboard with CGI is something he claims was inspired from his strict diet of Spielberg films where the monsters are never revealed early on.
Other than the reported negotiations, in the light of a recent financing and distribution agreement between Legendary and Universal, the Godzilla sequel may come to fruition as a Warner Bros. project.
What everyone is asking now is if Mothra will be brought into the fold this time?
We’ll keep you informed but for now what are your thoughts on the first film?
