MGM Studios has debuted the first official trailer for Anthony Mandler’s (Monster) gripping suspense Western, Surrounded in anticipation of the film’s release this June.
Directed by Mandler, from a script written by Andrew Pagana and Justin Thomas, and starring Letitia Wright (Black Panther, The Silent Twins), Jamie Bell (Rocketman, Skin), Jeffrey Donovan (Wraith of Man, “Burn Notice”), with Brett Gelman (“Stranger Things,” “Fleabag”) and Michael K. Williams (12 Years a Slave, “The Wire”), Surrounded unfolds five years after the Civil War, when a freed woman and former Buffalo Soldier, Moses “Mo” Washington, heads west to lay claim to a gold mine – the culmination of years of hardship for Mo and her community. 1870s America is a harsh and treacherous place for an unaccompanied black woman, so Mo disguises herself as a man to travel deep into the frontier. When her stagecoach is ambushed by a band of vicious thieves, Mo is forced to take legendary outlaw Tommy Walsh prisoner while the remaining surviving passengers seek help. What ensues is a battle of wills that blurs the line between captor and captive as they both try to survive the harsh western landscape.
Surrounded will be available on digital everywhere on June 20, 2023 and, in the meantime, we’ll leave you with the aforementioned trailer that provides a taster of the stirring stand-off audiences will experience when the film releases.
