After a hiatus of over four years, beloved British rock trio Doves has triumphantly returned to reclaim their signature sound, which they perfected over the course of their acclaimed career. Today sees the band unveil the apocalyptic new single “Renegade,” which effortlessly encapsulates their trademark blend of brooding indie rock and cinematic ambience. This long-awaited comeback marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Doves, as they prepare to release their sixth studio album “Constellations For The Lonely” on February 14, 2025, following the group’s move to EMI North.
The release of “Renegade” concludes a patchwork of writing and recording sessions that began in the same year. According to the drummer, vocalist, and co-songwriter Andy Williams, was the first track written for the new album, with the initial seeds planted by a desire to capture a distinct speculative feel inspired by the band’s hometown of Manchester. As Williams explains, “Looking at everyone’s lives over recent years, and considering the news at the moment, ‘Renegade’ feels a lot more loaded in retrospect. We wanted to go for a dystopian feel, thinking about Manchester itself over the next century or so. A totally imaginary thing… Blade Runner set in our home city.”
The album was written, recorded and produced by Doves between locations in Greater Manchester, North Wales and Cheshire with additional production from long-term collaborator, Dan Austin (Maxïmo Park, Young Rebel Set, Morning Parade, Massive Attack). “Constellations for the Lonely” will release on multiple formats, including standard and special edition vinyl, CD, cassette and digital and is available to pre-save here.
