Apple TV+ Renews “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” and Announces Multiple Spin-off Series From Legendary Entertainment

Apple TV+ has just confirmed that its popular Monsterverse series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” will be returning for a second season. This epic sci-fi show produced by Legendary Entertainment has proven to be a global sensation leading Apple TV+ to make the wise decision to renew “Monarch” for another action-packed season. And as if that wasn’t enough for you, the streaming platform has also secured a new multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment, which includes the second season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” but also multiple spinoff shows based within the same Monsterverse.

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

After a thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans levels San Francisco and reveals that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” follows two siblings as they uncover their family’s mysterious connection to the secretive organization Monarch. Clues lead the pair into the monster-filled world of Monarch and down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell) across two timelines: the 1950s and half a century later when Monarch faces threats from Shaw’s buried secrets. Spanning three generations, the story reveals long-hidden truths and shows how earth-shattering events can echo through our lives.

“‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ has left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds and imaginations of audiences around the world, led by the brilliance of Chris, Matt, Kurt, Wyatt and the incredibly gifted talented cast and creative team,” said Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV+. “We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise, as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse.”

The second season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is executive produced by Chris Black, Matt Fraction, Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville and Jen Roskind. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character. Toho licensed the rights to Legendary for “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” as a natural byproduct of their long-term relationship with the film franchise.

Over the past ten years, Legendary’s Monsterverse has evolved into an expansive story universe told across multiple platforms. Centered on humanity’s struggle for survival in a world where ancient monsters are real, the franchise began with 2014’s Godzilla film and expanded through Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the recently released, record-breaking Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. To date, the Monsterverse films have grossed over $2 billion globally. The franchise has also branched out into the hit event series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, video games, graphic novels, toys, and live experiences, cementing the Monsterverse as a titan of epic entertainment.

The first season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is now streaming globally on Apple TV+.
