Brainstorm Media has shared a selection of first-look stills from Affection, the upcoming sci-fi thriller written and directed by BT Meza and starring Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day, Imposters), Joseph Cross (Licorice Pizza, “Mindhunter”) and Julianna Layne (“Before”).
The film follows Ellie (Rothe), a woman afflicted by a condition that resets her memory, leaving her caught in a recurring cycle alongside a man who claims to be her husband. As the loop continues, she attempts to uncover the nature of her reality before her memory resets again.
Affection premiered at the Screamfest Horror Film Festival and has since gone on to screen on the international festival circuit, including its most recent showing at the Overlook Film Festival.
The film currently holds a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews include Collider drawing comparisons to Darren Aronofsky’s Mother! and Dan Trachtenberg’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, whilst Bloody Disgusting described the film as “such a rare, ambitious feat on multiple fronts,” and called Rothe “a goddamn revelation.”
The film is produced by Meza, Bay Dariz, Austin Walk and J.P. Ouellette. Affection is scheduled to release in select theaters on May 8.
