The One-of-a-Kind Knight in Swampy Odour Returns as Official ‘Shrek 5’ Trailer Debuts

Shrek 5 Mike Myers Trailer

DreamWorks Animation has dropped the first official trailer for Shrek 5, confirming the return of the iconic animated franchise to the silver screen next summer.

The upcoming sequel reunites original stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz in their career-defining roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona. This time around, they are joined by a new group of actors playing Shrek and Fiona’s now-grown children, who are leaving the swamp behind for a new adventure. Emmy winner Zendaya has joined the cast as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia, while Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo will voice her brothers, Fergus and Farkle.

The production also sees the return of various key creatives from the franchise’s history. Shrek 5 is directed by Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn. Vernon, who directed Shrek 2, also voices the Gingerbread Man across the series. Dohrn previously worked as a writer, artist, and Head of Story on earlier entries, and voiced Rumpelstiltskin in Shrek Forever After. Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru) serves as co-director. The film is produced by Gina Shay, who returns to the franchise alongside Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.

Based on William Steig’s eponymous 1990 book, the Shrek franchise began in 2001, with the debut film winning the inaugural Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Over the last two decades, the four existing films have grossed in excess of $2.9 billion at the global box office.

The property has since expanded into a broad multimedia brand, spawning an eight-time Tony-nominated Broadway musical, live touring shows, a dedicated London attraction, and themed areas across Universal Destinations & Experiences amusement parks.

Shrek 5 is scheduled to premiere in theaters June 30, 2027. In the meantime, run, run, run as fast as you can to enjoy the trailer below.
