NEON has debuted the official trailer for the Australian coming-of-age psychological shocker Leviticus ahead of the film’s theatrical release on June 19, 2026.
Written and directed by Adrian Chiarella, the film sees desire itself become the monster as two star-crossed teenage boys are forced to escape a violent, shape-shifting entity that takes the form of the person they desire most—each other.
The film features an extensive ensemble cast led by Joe Bird (Talk To Me) and Stacy Clausen (Thrash), starring alongside Jeremy Blewitt (“The Clearing”), Ewen Leslie (“The Twelve”), Davida McKenzie (Klara and the Sun), Nicholas Hope (“Picnic at Hanging Rock”), Zahra Newman (13 Lives), and Mia Wasikowska (Stoker).
Developed through VicScreen’s Originate initiative under the mentorship of script developer Angeli Macfarlane, Leviticus draws on Chiarella’s background in film editing and his personal experiences to craft a “queer social horror.” The director cites the influence of Asian cinema alongside modern genre classics such as It Follows (2014) and The Witch (2015).
Following its world premiere last January in the Midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival, the film garnered significant critical acclaim. The Guardian called the Leviticus a “haunting and innovative horror film” with “genuine chemistry” between its leads, while Slant Magazine described it as “intensely creepy” and “a potent and poignant teen romance.”
