Bleecker Street has released the official poster for Victorian Psycho, the dark, witty and bloodthirsty period horror feature directed by Zachary Wigon (Sanctuary) and written by Virginia Feito, based on her novel of the same name. The poster comes ahead of the film’s world premiere at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Following its debut, the title is set for a theatrical release on September 25.
Taking cues from Jane Eyre and American Psycho, the darkly comic psychological feature follows Winifred Notty (Maika Monroe – It Follows, Longlegs), a seemingly proper governess with unpredictable tendencies. Capable of disarming charm one moment and chilling menace the next, she arrives at the imposing Ensor House intent on epitomizing the model Victorian governess—tutoring her young charges, Drusilla and Andrew, spinning bedtime tales and attempting to keep her macabre inclinations in check.
But as the estate’s oppressive atmosphere tightens its grip and the Pounds family’s troubling eccentricities intensify, Winifred’s composure begins to falter. From mysterious nocturnal wanderings to increasingly unsettling interactions with the household staff, her erratic behavior points to a darker undercurrent. As Christmas morning approaches, her grip on reality begins to slip, culminating in a violent and destabilizing turn of events.
The ensemble cast also includes Jason Isaacs (“The White Lotus”), Ruth Wilson (“Luther”), and Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho). The pic is produced by Wigon, Dan Kagan, Sébastien Raybaud and Nick Shumaker.
Margaret Qualley was previously attached to star before exiting the project last year, with Monroe subsequently stepping into the lead role.
The novel, described by Stephen Graham Jones as ‘a slender novel that, if you squeeze it too tight, drips blood — but it’s the kind of blood that makes you smile,’ is available now.
