Preston indie-rock quartet The Cases have released ‘Mr Penny,’ the lead single and title track from their upcoming debut EP, marking the start of a new partnership with This Feeling Records and LAB Records.

The band first attracted attention through TikTok live sessions, before translating that following into sold-out headline shows and festival appearances, including Isle of Wight and Y NOT?. Their new single and EP follow a self-funded recording period in Liverpool with producer Chris Taylor, known for his work with The Lathums, Blossoms, and Courteeners.

Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Harry Hornsby described the single’s narrative: “If you’re gonna get into a relationship, everyone’s got a chance of getting hurt. When it works out, everyone’s happy, but if not… you can end up like ‘Mr Penny’. It’s a fictional story, but it’s something that many people go through. Between the ages of 16 and 19 you think you’ve found the love of your life, but it often doesn’t work out.”

Bassist James Maher added that the EP reflects the band’s own experiences: “The whole thing tells a story of the different ways that people take a breakup. We had all been through break-ups when we wrote it, so we felt those emotions: being upset, being angry, then realising nothing’s that deep because we’re still young.”

‘Mr Penny’ opens the band’s four-track EP of the same name, which charts a story of faltering young love. It moves from the uncertainty of “The Curse” through the heartbreak of “She Said” to the release of starting fresh with “Romantic.” The Cases maintain their signature high-energy indie-pop throughout, while also exploring moments of melancholy and bursts of punk-infused intensity. All four tracks were written back-to-back, driven by the band’s own experiences and a surge of creative inspiration. All members—Hornsby, lead guitarist Will Bullen, Maher, and drummer Matt Barron—are aged between 18 and 21, but the new track showcases a confidence and polish well beyond their years.

Their deal with LAB Records and This Feeling gives The Cases access to industry expertise and a supportive network, helping them reach bigger shows and grow their fanbase beyond the North West. Longer-term, they’re aiming to go full-time, break the charts, and stake a claim as one of the UK’s top indie acts.

The band is hitting the road again, with a second headline tour that peaks at a sold-out Manchester Gorilla show. Alongside select dates with Alex Spencer, they’ll appear at festivals across the UK. Shows include Sheffield (Feb 15), Birmingham (Feb 17), London (Apr 11), Bridlington (Apr 17), Edinburgh (Apr 24), Glasgow (Apr 25), Atherton (Apr 30 – sold out), Manchester (May 1 – sold out), Hull (May 23), Stockton (Jun 6), and Leicestershire’s 110 Above Festival (Aug 20–22). Remaining tickets for the shows are available HERE.
